ok so like many of you I take what seems to be a million sups, the money is no issue, but which sups are your top 3 for keeping colitis in check and or stopping a flare?

heres what I take, im on predisone now battling a flare it is improving, and im on simponi which they called today and found almost no levels left so I gotta do that 2x a month now which is fine.

sups: dgl licorice, glutamine when I remember on empty stomach 10g, boswellia, turmeric, vit D when I remember it, digestive enzymes every meal, ACV, probiotics , multi vitamin, whey isolate no lactose zinc carnosine

Do you know as a fact that each of those supplements actually help you? Have you tried stopping one for a few weeks and see if you get worse? A lot to take and you should make sure they're effective.

My top three are clove oil, mk677 and thc/cbd candies. Fiber is the only other thing I use consistently and I will be trialling Qing Dai soon. I made sure each item addresses very different mechanisms.

That was my experience with meds. They kept piling on and in the end none of them really made a difference. Only speaking for myself here.

Qing Dai, Sulforaphane (brocolli sprout juice), a good multivitamin.

I think the winning recipe for me has been addressing A) local inflammation B) systemic inflammation C) basic nutritional needs.

^ Interesting you mention sulforaphane, I'm interested in trying that.

My top 3 supplements right now are: DHEA, pregnenolone, and L-tyrosine. They've changed my life.

Mk677 does speed up gastric emptying time specifically but that is minor in the grand scheme. It's a ghrelin mimetic which causes it to increase growth hormone secretion as well as reduce multiple inflammatory interleukins and a handful of other positive effects. This reduces inflammation and increases intestinal healing directly. You can search the forum for my ghrelin post if you want to see what lead me there. It increased the type of foods I can eat pretty greatly. It does make me very hungry though. It's upstream enough to be sustainable too.

I did some research on MK677 (ibutamoren) a while back and it is something I wanted to try to put on some muscle and weight. But it is an anabolic, so MK677 should be avoided if you have or had cancer, which ruled it out for me.

Sinmiedo-wow thanks for sharing man, I will begin again tonight . I’m actually a professional bodybuilder that is almost retired every time I compete I go in remission then when I go into offseason every year a flare starts and I’m on prednisone most of the year until it calms down. I’m on 30 mg now and tapering

I would definitely make sure anyone thinking about it look into it as much as possible prior to chasing it down though. It's not actually a steroid although it gets sold at many of the same places. It does however reliably increase growth hormone which is good for healing and for bodybuilders. This however does come with increased risks of specific types of cancer. Then there's also the fact some may not like the increased water retention or hunger leading to possible weight gain.
In my case, I'm hoping to gain weight and I accepted the risks involved weighed against the plausible benefits. I personally think it's an impressive chemical but I wouldn't want anyone to go after it without being well versed on the risk versus rewards.
I'm going to post another study under the Ghrelin post so it will be easier to find and the study itself also is pretty in depth and valuable.

Do you think that sodium butyrate is always the same (no matter which brand we choose) or it can differ in quality? Does it come in powder form as well?

I always struggle with supplements. Hard to know what's really making a difference and helping to keep things calm, especially in remission. My biggest takeaway from all the reading I'm doing on UC is it is such a personalized disease...what works for one won't necessarily translate to others. Means worth trying a number of suggestions and seeing how it suits you. The one I am looking to try next is CBL...the benefits seem to go beyond just UC health. But need to find a good quality brand to order. Let's see. Otherwise I'm currently taking:
- Bone-Up (thought I'd help with Calcium deficiency from all the steroids), plus Magnesium to help absorb.
- Vit D - for some reason 5000 iu upsets me, so only taking 1000 per day for the moment.
- Isatis Cooling - pill form (similar to Qing Dia) - Seems to help with my GERD.
- Others - Vit E, PepZinGI, Lycopene
- Oil of Oregano and Curcumin - recently added.

Would love feedback from anyone on these.

Sulforaphane sounds interesting, I've checked it up and found this: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3951821/ on the properties of the shepherd's purse. I've read that this herb is very good for diarrhea and intestinal bleeding.

bpc 157? I'm just reading about it on the Polish fora and it sounds incredibly interesting, the only thing that worries me is that it is mostly used in the context of body building and I have the size 34 and don't want to change it for a sumo fighter sexy appeal smile

I have tried BPC 157 from the patent holder so I know it is the real deal. It has helped me with soft tissue injuries like a torn meniscus, thru subcutaneous injection. I have used it orally too, and it did have somewhat of a soothing effect at times like l-glutamine does for me, but it did not "cure" me. I still have to live my "bubble boy existence" of preparing my own food fresh every meal at home that is safe for me and take my supplements.

that's good to hear Boris! maybe pbc hasn't cured you but I'm sure something will turn up soon that will be a cure for all of us. Is pbc157 something new on the market? strange, I dig into the uc subject almost every day and It's only today that I have read about it in Csantamaria's post.

Hi Ewa,

BPC 157 is a peptide that has an underground following, but it is not something a doctor would know about so no surprise you have not heard of it. There is a lot of discussion about BPC 157 on sites LongeCity and many bodybuilding forums that you can read up on.

There might be a few gems in there (some do swear by it) but the majority of supplements are going to be crap and ineffective for you. So vet them yourself, make sure you see improvements, and do not take a supplement long-term just because others with UC do, or just because others had luck with it (results are NOT easily repeatable among individuals). As the popularity of a supplement is pretty much irrelevant, only your results matter!

iPoop, I'm perfectly aware of it but when I hear about some "miracle drug", I switch off logical thinking and convince myself that I should give it a try. There's even an idiom in Polish that describes this way of thinking, it says that a person gets a "monkey's brain". It's very much unjust because after so many failures, an average monkey would be much more intelligent than me smile
