UC and possible Tonsillectomy - Dumb Question but not sure

Hi There- I feel really dumb asking this question, but I was hoping someone here could help. I currently take 4 Lialda a day and 2 azathioprine tablets. I think there's a good chance I might need a tonsillectomy - but I was not sure how it works when you have something like that done, since I'd assume swallowing medication would be very painful or hard to do. Has anyone had their tonsils out as an adult, and if so, were you taking medication and how did you make sure you were able to take medication?

Within a day or so you can eat solid food. If you can swallow solid food, you can swallow a pill. There might bs some soreness, but it would be wrong to say "very painful". I had tonsils out at 16, and the surgery did not go well. Yet I was swallowing food the next day.

thank you! and oh no - it didn't go well -im sorry to hear that! I keep reading mixed experiences on getting them out as an adult - either easy or horrendous. I'm scared and hoping I don't need them out, but I think it would solve some other issues I have. thanks again for your reply!

Yep, I got my tonsils out the same year I got UC -- great year, medically! Lol. I had an extremely painful abscess and could barely swallow prior to the tonsillectomy, so I was actually in less pain immediately after the procedure. They give you good pain meds, so you should be okay and able to swallow your meds! I didn't feel like the tonsillectomy was all that bad for me personally. I stayed overnight in the hospital one night because I didn't have anyone to drive me home, but usually it's an outpatient procedure.
