Hey all. I had my takedown surgery on Monday, November 12th. Surgery went well. I was able to poop that day so everything was going good. I was supposed to go home Wednesday but I couldn't urinate fully. I was going but not emptying my bladder fully. So had a straight cath a few times to relieve the pressure. Well then Wednesday night, everything stopped working. The put a Foley catheter in to see if that would help me start to poop again. Nope. Had a CT scan yesterday and everything looks good just inflamed which they expected. Now I'm going again (a lot) but white blood cell count is up so they are keeping me in another night. This has been rough this round. I forgot my creams and wipes at home. And the stuff they have here is not good. So I'm exhausted and very, very sore on my backside. I just want to go home already.

There is usually a pharmacy near the hospitals, if you have visitors then I’d ask them to pick up some A&E cream or to grab your stuff from home.

Ask the hospital for a spray bottle or hand held bidet.

Do you have a temperature? I got an abscess 6 days after surgery that was resolved with antibiotics. I was in there for 11 days after my takedown.

Hey Woogy fellow class of 2018 member congrats my friend.No more UC anxiety[which is the worst anxiety].Hey each round has its challenges,after this little bump in the road you will be fine.Happy for you.I use product call Butt Paste and Desitin[both 40% Zinc Oxide] for butt burn.Keep us updated and Good Luck

KS-Since I live a decent distance from the hospital I don't have visitors. The nurses were able to find me baby wipes so I'm hoping that helps some. No I don't have a fever but then again I'm taking Motrin and Tylenol on schedule so not sure if a fever would show up. I started feeling nausea starting last night so I had to take zofran again. Not sure if that has anything to do with the white count going up.
Champ-I actually have the butt paste at home. A friend told me it works great so that's what I bought. I can't wait to get home to use it. Glad to see you're doing well with your pouch.

I was taking tyelonol too. My fever would come and go then I started to get pain. This was over a few days and they couldn’t find it on scans because it was so small until it developed further.

If it is really bad then maybe you can use an app like postmates to get it delivered to your room. Not sure that is possible but maybe you could explore it.

Nurse just came in, they think it's the starting of a UTI so they just started antibiotics. I hope this takes care of it so I can go home.

Everyone says the 3 step is the easiest recovery. For me, it was the roughest. At first everything went great and I was released to go home a couple days after surgery. Unfortunately less then 24 hours later I got super-dehydrated/ sick and had to go to the ER. For some reason my intestines got all inflamed and they stopped absorbing liquid. They pumped me up with fluid from an IV but, I was barely yielding any urine for days. It was just going through me like boiling acid. After a few days, my guts finally woke up and started doing their job. I spent a miserable extra week in the hospital wondering if life would get better. It did. As you know, nothing about this journey is easy. Be patient, it will get better.

Oh wow Run, I'm glad I had to stay then. I wouldn't want to go home to have something happen. Did you have to get a Foley catheter too? I'm not a fan of it and I'm wondering if that's why I got the UTI.

I didn’t have a catheter on the third surgery and they didn’t give me one when I was readmitted. Probably because I wasn’t producing hardly any urine. All the fluids were just going right through the pouch.

Hopefully things are going better for you today!

They can definitely cause UTI. How are you doing? In reality, we probably shouldn't say the 3rd step is "easy". All the steps are tough, and there is always a chance of things not going 100% your way, but I am sure you will be out of there soon, and this will all be in the past. You will move on to adjusting to life with your pouch - free of UC smile

I got home from the hospital yesterday afternoon. I still have the catheter. Makes it's difficult to sleep. I have a lot of pressure in my bottom so I can sit down directly. I have to lean to the side. After taking pain meds it gets better and then I'm fine sitting. I hope that goes away soon, it's very uncomfortable. But I realize it was a big surgery and just glad to be home.

I purposely didn't want pain meds after surgery 2 and 3 bc after #1 pain meds wouldn't let me pee which kept me in hospital longer. So many different things u go thru after each surgery,loose stool,pain,dehydration,feeling weak,meds or no meds?etc etc. Takes going thru surgery #1 to get idea of what your in for for future surgeries. Just relax(which I don't usually do) and let body heal. You will be fine. Visiting nurse was big help for me. Good luck

I'm still having issues with my jpouch. I have the constant feeling like I need to have a bowel movement but when I go to the bathroom hardly anything comes out. It's the same feeling I had when I was going thru a UC flare. The times when I am able to go, it's small pieces of formed stool, which makes it hard to come out. I'm so uncomfortable. I can't sleep because it feels like I'm going to have an accident. I haven't taken pain meds since Sunday thinking maybe this was causing the issue. Has anyone experienced this after their takedown surgery?

Hey I have accidents while sleeping now. Maybe 1-2x week. I'm a heavy sleeper so I sleep thru BM which I'm glad. Immediate shower in morn. Not much stool usually. Now I try to get empty before going to bed. If I think I can go more I stay up an extra hour. Now I used adult diapers after surgery 1-2-3. Not every day but certain days. Days that I let stool get loose were usually accident days. Imodium/Lomitil helped prevent accidents and still do. Take probiotic,I had urge and small stools sometimes after surgery 3 Nothing for me to be concerned about

Thanks Champ. Today I started taking Tylenol and ibuprofen again and this has helped with the pressure in my bottom and having the feeling to always wanting to go. And when I do go it makes it a little easier. I didn't want to go back to taking meds but I was so uncomfortable I couldn't take it anymore. I hope as I heal that this all gets better and I don't need any more meds. 😁

Feeling like you need to go all the time may be normal at this point, but it shouldn't be like that forever. When do you go for follow up? In the beginning, I went often, and I couldn't wait very long to get to the bathroom, but it wasn't urgent like I would have an accident. If it's uncomfortable to the point where you need to take something, you should definitely see if you can get in for follow up. I wouldn't take ibuprofen though, even post surgery, unless absolutely necessary. Tylenol is better. I never had accidents, but I am a very light sleeper. I get up if the wind blows.

My follow up with the surgeon isn't until January 2nd. And I'm not going all that often. I expected to be going all the time but I only get the feeling of needing to go but then I can't it there's hardly anything there. I don't know if having this catheter has anything to do with it either. I never had one before. I'm also a light sleeper, that's probably why I'm not sleeping much. The feeling of the need to go and I'm getting up for fear of an accident.
