urge to pee after takedown

Seeking some advice: I had my takedown surgery about 10 days ago. Went home from the hospital after a few days, then started to have feeling of the urge to pee all the time. I thought it was a UTI, so I called my surgeons office to tell them I was going to my GP for a urine test and hopefully antibiotics. Urine test showed microscopic blood trace but no white blood cells. Dr put me on a round of Cipro four days ago and symptoms have not improved. Surgeons office told me to call them first thing tomorrow (Monday) morning for an appt. has anyone here dealt with these symptoms before?

By the way- I’m female. Not sure if that matters.. but there it is. Lol

Is it before a bowel movement?

Could be some scar tissue that needs to be dilated that is putting pressure on some other “stuff”. Scar tissue is very common after surgery.

It’s all the time and seems to be worse when I’m sitting or laying down. I’m wondering if the jpouch is putting pressure on my bladder? Not sure if the bladder is actually located near it.
I was also just reading that a symptom of pouchitis is “lower abdominal pain.” This certainly qualifies. But I doubt I would get pouchitis so soon after takedown- while I’m on antibiotics.

It could also be interstitial cystitis which has been linked in studies to UC and autoimmune diseases.

Any update. I would think UTI too. Did the antibiotics help at all? I have times when I feel the way you describe and times I am 100% normal, always have. I think it has to do with that time of the month. I go more then.

NSSG- the culture came back as negative for UTI even thought I thought for sure I had one. I have an appt tomorrow (Tuesday) with the surgeon. Hoping to get some answers and a prescription that will bring some relief. Of everything I’ve dealt with over the past few months.. this is among the most painful.

Please let me know how it goes. I hope there's a quick, simple solution. I am so sorry. The last thing we need is trouble after everything we have been through.

If that's the case, interstitial cystitis is more likely. It's painful as well as the symptoms you've noted. Look it up and see if that matches what you're feeling.

Saw the surgeon today. She seemed a little perplexed by my symptoms. She ordered a CT scan w/enema. I was able to get in right away for that. Dr wants to rule out an abscess that might be putting pressure on the pouch. If that comes out clean, then it’s onto a pouch scope to check for pouchitis. In the meantime, She put me on flagyl. It’s a little unnerving when your doctor scratches their head upon hearing your symptoms.
Really hope it’s not inters cystitis. I can’t imagine something like that would come on a week post surgery.

I actually had this issue in the hospital after my takedown. The cause for me was my bladder wasn't emptying fully when I would pee. So I constantly felt like a had to go. At one point I had 900cc's of urine that they had to empty because it wasn't coming out. It was so uncomfortable. My doc thought it was because the pouch was inflamed from surgery and being used and it was pushing against my bladder. They gave me meds first to see if that helped. it didn't so I had to have a catheter, which I went home with. After I finally got that out I now feel fine. Oh and my doc did a CT scan to make sure there wasn't anything else causing it and that came back fine. Good luck.
