Can anyone who has Ulcerative Colitis and has had a total hip replacement tell me if there are likely to be any extra problems with the surgery. I had a THP in 2009 and my second hip now is severely affected. I was diagnosed with Distal Ulcerative Colitis in 2014 and have recently been in a long flare (6months) which thankfully at last seems to be under control (for the last 10 weeks). I want to put off surgery to my hip for as long as possible but as I am a keen walker I am finding it increasing difficult to walk any distance now. My main concern is that the stress of the surgery will send me into a flare. I am in the UK so even if I am referred now it is likely that I will wait at least 6 months for an op. I am sure that my arthritis has worsened considerably in this past year - especially since my UC was flaring so my hip joint is rapidly deteriorating. Not sure what is going to be worse for me - pain from my hip or the risk of another UC flare. Has anyone had this operation and should I be unduly worried about
going ahead with it just because I have Ulcerative Colitis?
