As i've mentioned i have a hernia high up on my vertical surgery incision.I go into NYC on Wednesday to see my surgeon and find out what he thinks we should do.Strange bc i was very careful after all 3 surgeries with lifting. This hernia showed up 3+ months after last surgery.Who out there has experienced a hernia after any colon removal?? Where was hernia and what if anything was done about
hernia???Happy Holiday to all

I didn't experience that, but it is frustrating when you follow all the rules, and it still happens.
I am sorry, please let me know how it goes Wednesday.

I have a j pouch (about
a year now) and was just diagnosed with the same type of hernia. I’m 7 months pregnant thought which is what we think contributed to it. Anyhow, I’m just taking it easy, taking Tylenol and laying down (if possible) when the pain gets bad. I had an appt with a surgeon but cancelled- I just want to get through the birth (having a c section) and if it’s still an issue, I’ll consult a surgeon.
How are your symptoms? Are they managable? What doctor (gastro or primary) is handing your care for the hernia? Wouldn’t hurt to see the surgeon and see if they think you’ll need surgery. I personally just don’t want to go under the knife again! I’m tired of it! But if it’ll help...

I seem to recall many of us were concerned with you doing too much after your first and second surgeries.....just because you have a hernia after your third, it doesn't mean a weak area wasn't there waiting till the best time for you to pop out a new baby hernia.
Take special care after the surgery.....happy new year 🎆🗓
Hope all goes smoothly...let us know how it goes.

Q i took 4 weeks off after 1st surgery,3 weeks after 2nd and 3 weeks after 3rd.Now after #1 and 2 he cut me on my vertical incision i had from spleen injury. So that means muscle started healing after surgery in April and hernia showed up in Dec.That a long time to heal EXCEPT if maybe stitched muscle started popping little by little after April.Very possible. The 10-15 lbs i gained is in my stomach so prob combination of things.Cant be stupid after hernia surgery.Just turned 60 so can't think I'm 20.Happy New Year to you also

Happy New Year, Champ! Wishing you all the best for your hernia follow-up. Probably a good thing for you to do in advance of the repair surgery is to find out what your ideal weight should be, given your age, bone mass, & height. Then adjust your weight in accordance & try to stabilize it with weigh-ins at home weekly. I write this knowing it's not the easiest thing to do-- because I gain lbs. much more easily in older age than I did through age 40. We have to get reasonable & avoid pigging out because too much weight gain can bring on a lot of serious senior problems like high blood pressure & diabetes. / Old Hat (38 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Weight gain has never been an issue with me. I'm the skinny one in family. I'm 6'5-230. That's not heavy for my height. My Dad was overweight his whole life. High blood pressure in his 20s. Died at 56. I'm 60. I'm one of 5 boys. Brother above me died in 06 bc of bad lifestyle plus Diabetes at 49yo. So I'm ok healthwise now that UC is gone. Have to get back to gym so stomach doesn't carry any extra weight. 220-225 might help hernia
