They are most likely requesting a CT just to rule out anything major as the cause. It's the standard protocol they do in pretty much every ER, which I'm not a fan of. I would expect a knowledgeable GI to ask for a CRP, fecal calprotectin, and stool pathology test before going to a CT scan if at all. I would find a different GI and start with the simple tests mentioned.
