Canasa for UC and for how long

Hello,
I’ve had UP since 2006 and UC since 2016. It traveled up to my sigmoid colon in 2016. I am currently taking 4 Lialda per day, and tried to wean myself off Canasa since I had been using Canasa every night for about 8 yrs or so. Here’s my question, I keep reading manufacturer’s recommendtion saying don’t use over six weeks. Obviously, Ive been using well over that time.
Last few weeks seem to be having the tenesmus and urges to go again and small amounts of stool each time. Pressure also in the rectum area. This was how I felt back in 2006 when diagnosed but also had blood when I went. This time no blood just the other symptoms. So, I started to use Canasa again and wondered if it can be inserted more than just once a day. Can we use one in morning and one at night to get these symtoms under control?
My DR never said anything about having to stop after six weeks. Have any of you been on Canasa for years?

Thats good to know. I wasn’t sure.
I have used the enemas during my last big flare, but at that time had a very hard time holding it in but I did have a terrible flare at that time.
I still have a lot of the enemas left so may try some again. One at night before bed,right?
I also have some Cortifoam from last time. I may try that too. I just want to nip this thing in the bud.

I've been using some combination of mesalamine enemas and/or suppositories for around 15 years. One of the worst flares I ever had occurred when I tried to abruptly stop doing a nightly enema. I ended up in the hospital for weeks and would have probably needed a colectomy if the massive doses of I.V. steroids hadn't saved my rear end.
For most people, mesalamine has almost no side effects.

I'd open one of the foil packages that the mesalamine enemas are in to look at the color of the medication. When new the liquid should be white in color. The liquid can darken slightly over time, which is normal. However, if you see really dark to black coloration then they are no good, and dispose of them. Shelf life has a variety of factors, including how well they were stored, temp, humidity, etc etc. It's possible they might still be usable if left in their sealed foil container.

Thank you both for your feedback. I will open one up and check out the color. They were stored in a controlled temperature in my closet, so hoping they are still the right color.
