I understand that part but I was really weak after my second surgery due to high output. I ended up being readmitted because of a blockage/high output.

I know that we all want to get out of the hospital as soon as possible but if you don’t feel up to it then you can stay longer.

I was on the other extreme with my hospital stays for my 3 surgeries, I think they totaled around 55 days.

After my 2nd i also had high output,Dr Shukla came in on Friday and said i could go home tomorrow.So i get all plans done,my son was driving in to get me.Drs weekend assistant comes in Saturday morning saying my output was high and she wants to keep me in for day or two.I said NO WAY IS THAT HAPPENING.Told her Dr said I'm going home and I've dealt with high output on and off for 32 years.I think us with UC are used to high output when flareing.Dr Shukla called me before i went home and i complained about why haven't i gotten some lomitil or imodium if there so concerned about my output.I said it seems that theres not much communication amongst his staff and i suffer bc of it.HE apoligized and i told him i can handle loose stool/high output which i did and i went home.Keith What were your complications where it totaled 55 days?

I had Ileus after each surgery.

1st surgery — ileus. I was on high doses of Prednisone going in and my skin failed during the laparoscopic surgery so they had to do an open surgery. I was in really bad shape going in.

2nd surgery — ileus, really high output (4-6 liters a day). Then I ended up being readmitted with a kink, blockage and dehydration.

3rd surgery — ileus and then I had fevers which developed into an abscess.

OMG you poor guy. Holy crap that had to be rough.I think of the kid that died last year on here bc he waited too long to have surgery.I'm sure u have thought what if i waited any longer? I'm grateful that for whatever reason my brain said lets do it[surgery] once i realized Pred wasn't working anymore. We all have to be grateful that surgery can help us back to a somewhat normal life

Yes there was nothing else I needed to do at the hospital. I have my pain meds and I can get around (slowly)

Nice. Do u have someone at home to help u with things??? Do u have visiting nurse coming over to help with things??

No visiting nurses. They don't do that here it seems.

Isn't Ileus a lack of bowel movement? How do you have a high output with a ileus? I have quite a high and liquidy output right now but I'm happy because that's better than an obstruction. Or is it?

So I got home and I pooped out of my newly formed not yet connected J-Pouch. And I have absolutely no control. While I wiped I pooped out more. That is worse than the incontinence I had during my ulcerative colitis flare. Then I actually had pressure and this time I feel nothing. Will this pass? By the way it was actual stool and blood.

I had to wait over 3 months for Michelassi to fit me into his schedule and my health for progressively worse since my GI took me off of a biological in preparation for my surgery.

Michelassi built me a great jpouch (my GI says it all the time), too bad I have pouchitis but that’s not his fault.

If I recall the guy who unfortunately passed away for an infection which you kind of eluded to when saying that they want you out of the hospital ASAP so you don’t pick up a super bug.

I had ileus for the first few days (vomiting after abdominal surgery is not fun) and after that resolved then the floodgates opened up with the high output. It was so high that they wouldn’t let me leave the hospital, they gave me all sorts of bowel slowing agents (including tincture of opium). At one point they discussed doing my 3rd surgery while I was still in the hospital because of the high output.

Guys and girls should Andrina have BMs come out the butt if its only surgery # 2 ?? i only had slight discharge.Keith i wanted all 3 surgeries done in 2018 bc of deductible,but Dec 13 of 2017 i went in to see Dr Shukla bc i felt like crap ,getting little weaker every day.I wanted surgery that day,i did the best acting job to add to how crappy i felt.It didn't work.He said he will do a blood test to see what my counts were.He told me E.R at NYP was packed so i would be sitting there and if they didn't find me SICK enough i would be sent home.Blood counts were ok and i went home and somehow survived til Jan 9. What journeys we all go thru before and after surgeries.We should all get together and write a book

My belly button popped open and blood came out should I just leave it alone? I don't have gauze and tape

Hospital prob should of sent u home with some.Call surgeon first thing in morning and explain.I would try to find something clean to cover it with,it might be draining over night.Are u sleeping on your back? would think so.

Hopefully you were able to get some answers about the Belly Button, was it bleeding a lot? I know that they used my belly button as one of the ports for surgery, but the only sign was it looked a little bruised after. As for output after the second surgery, I had enough blood and mucus that I got concerned and called the surgeons office. They reassured me that it was totally normal. After about two weeks the blood was gone and would just have periodic mucus.

How are you doing? I passed stuff through my backside after step two. The loop has 2 openings at the stoma. You can't really see it when you look, but output can pass through into the j-pouch. You're almost 7 weeks to takedown!!! exciting smile

I went home without gauze and tape and I was already home. The belly button seems fine I had another doctor look at it. The surgeon said the j-pouch is fine. Not sure when my next surgery is because he will leave for summer vacation but he hopes to get me in before he leaves. If not it will be in August or something. I have my follow-up appointment on 4/24/2019.

Yes I'm sleeping on my back. Can't sleep any other way at this time.

Yesterday I changed 4 bags because the inner disk wouldn't stick at all and I was afraid stool would pass underneath it. I still have samples but I mostly use hollister. I ended up using a moldable barrier and it didn't leak so far. I had a nervous break down. This morning I woke up pooping out of my bottom and I haven't stopped. I ate a little soup and mashed potatoes. Do I need to adjust my diet? If so how? I've been losing weight since step 2 as well.

Call surgeon and explain all.I never pooped out my butt after step 2 just mucus type discharge.Hollister worked fine with me.Visiting nurse told me to lay down for 20-30 mins and hold everything tight to my body after we changed bag so adhesive sticks well.Boy time does fly by.Having bag seemed to zip by.My surgeon has his head nurse advise over phone and if i need to see him or not in case of any issue.Never had any serious problem.Good luck

everything you describe sounds normal to me. I had a lot of issues with output from my bottom and the problems with leaks under. I told you, I was really at my limit with output. Nothing helped, but 7 weeks isn't the end of the world. Do your best, hopefully things are easier for you than they were for me.
