2 weeks after colonoscopy

I wasn’t here for several years. Since 2010.on Remicade in remission of UC.
Last few years colonoscopy confirm some erosions in rectum, but no ulceration. I hadn’ t had any problems, fealing copletely healthy.
15.5 had my last cscope, and dr took out one polyp in rectum. First few days I had little mucus in stool, but no blood. And last three days I noticed blood in stool. Still no pain, no diarrhea, but little blood after poop and strange feeling in rectum during the day. My calprotectin test shows 350, and normal is under 50.
My gastro dr is on the way, and I can see her in 7 days.
Just wondering is blood the consequence of polyp removal or colonoscopy activated UC ?
I heard that is normal to bleed 2,3 days after colonoscopy, but my bleeding started 15 days after.

I would lean towards the scope aggravating your UC given the length of time post scope. Hopefully this is just a little blip and you will get everything under control soon.

I don't know how a scope would aggravate UC since it's an immune response but you can bleed up to 2 weeks after if polyps were removed or biopsies taken.

Hi....could you clarify what the visual was during this last scope....did you have obvious inflammation?

Before Remicade I had 60 cm of colon in inflamation with many pseudopolyps. Last 4 years 5 cm of rectum have some changes in mucosa, erossions, but no ulcers. I didnt have any problems with rectum till now, after removing polyp.

Hard to say, anecdotally heard some say they flared after a colonoscopy. Whether it was aggravation from the procedure, or even C Diff from the scope/hospital who knows. But a stool test for c diff couldn't hurt. If you;re 15-days post colonoscopy then explore the flare/c diff route.

I read that 1-2% of patients have some sort of complication after a colonoscopy. C Diff isn't out of the question here. I always eat TONS of homemade yogurt after a colonoscopy.

An FDA study was released in 2018 showing that colonoscopes are 100 times more infectious than previously thought, mostly because they are improperly cleaned. Here is the WebMD article talking about it:

Despite the findings, the FDA decided to keep recommending colonoscopies because they have no better imaging method for diagnosing disease.

There's also this study, which shows 1 in 8 UC patients flare after a scope:

I'm one of those 1 in 8. Every time I get scoped I have a fulminant flare. Every. Bloody. Time. I don't get colonoscopies anymore. Which is fine because I'm in remission anyway.

Rates of infection of 1 in 1000 instead of 1 in 1,000,000, so yes, 100 times greater, but still a small number.

Wow, that's some scary stuff. Scopes have made me flare as well. I'm glad that my new GI so far seems less eager to jump to scoping me every time I flare than some of my previous doctors did.

Had my 14th scope yesterday....I have never flared or been worse afterward if I was flaring.
Seems I have had good docs who are particular about equipment sterilisation.
It's scary there are documented cases of serious transmission via scopes.

It's not the docs who do it, but the nurses and lab techs.

The scope is supposed to be manually washed, thoroughly, with soap and water before being put into a sterilizer. The FDA discovered that the pre-washing stage was not being done properly in many cases, and even when it was, they were still finding organisms that survived sterilization.

I understand and agree....but I hope and assume the doctors would enforce those standards as well.
