I have read a lot about FMTs and it's not true that they universally fix UC. Actually more than half are not brought into remission by it. So... the theory is wrong from the start.
Ok, well, I didn't claim that FMT was any kind of universal fix. What I did say is that I noticed that the study I had read many years ago noted a ~30% remission rate. And, what that said (and still says) to me is that, clearly, if the replacement (or massive disruption) of the gut flora can be shown to induce remission, the gut flora is surely a primary cause of the condition. This is undeniable, as the evidence shows it. It does not, however, say anything about
the downstream effects or the further manifestation of the disease. But, if one finds the primary cause, then the rest of it doesn't really matter.
To your experience - I actually would NOT expect FMT to be successful too terribly often. How can anyone know if one persons gut will tolerate the contents of another - except by experimentation? If UC is ultimately caused by a bacteria strain that the UC sufferer finds irritative/virulent, who is to say that a FMT donor isn't chock full of the same bacterial strain (just that they tolerate the strain, due to whatever differences, genetic or otherwise)? You could easily be making things worse for the recipient by adding more irritative bacteria to their gut. And, there is no known way (as far as I know) to completely clean out the recipients intestinal tract prior to FMT to ensure that residual flora don't just eventually take back over their gut... Add to this all of the possible complications (such as yours), and I do not find FMT a viable or exceptionally efficacious long term treatment.
All that said, I posit that IF UC is caused by irritative/virulent bacterial takeover of our flora (and the fact that FMT is effective AT ALL provides significant evidence that it is), and FMT (when effective) acts as a flora replacement/reset, then my suggested 'Strong Full Spectrum Antibiotic followed by Probiotics' could/would do the same thing (gut flora replacement/reset) but in a much more predictable and safe manner than with FMT.
And, one major point. I have thus far been able to tamp down any small recurrence of symptoms (light to medium bleeding and mucous in stool) simply by taking a dose or two of the LiveLeaf - which has NO OTHER function than to disrupt the quorum sensing mechanism of virulent bacteria. If UC is not caused (as a first/originating cause - not secondary, tertiary, etc) by virulent/irritative gut flora, then how is this possible? I see no other explanation for this, as the LiveLeaf has no active ingredient except for that which serves to disrupt the sensing...
