Yes, I mean Canadian Pharmacies.

A few weeks ago I posted a thread about my experiences and thoughts buying from "Canadian pharmacy" websites

(which in almost all cases are not actually filling through Canadian pharmacies - they are actually "Pharmacy referral services" that forward your prescription to pharmacies in some reputable countries (Australia, UK, Singapore, New Zealand, possibly occasionally Canada) and some not-so-reputable (Mauritius). These pharmacies supposedly follow the safety regulations and supply-chain-auditing of the country they reside in, which may be quite different than the safety laws in the USA.

I used one that filled my generic Lialda prescription at 1/7 the cost of my US employer's insurance's pharmacy. They filled it through Singapore but then switched to Mauritius, which scared me, and I'm not happy about it, but I'm sticking with it for the time being.

I understand this is a very dangerous game I'm playing. I have a stockpile of mesalamine and I use the oldest stuff first. Hopefully if anything happens with counterfeit drugs I'll hear about it before I consume it.

There's a number of websites like PharmacyChecker.com or cipa.com or ipabc.ca which purport to verify whether these international pharmacy referral services are safe and legitimate, but this raises the question of why we should trust *those* self-run auditors. All of them are businesses, not government agencies.

Buyer beware. There's a lot of money to be saved, and there's also a lot of money for fraudsters to make.

I'm also a little unsettled why the DOZENS of these websites all look like they are made by the exact same website designer. I suspect many of them are fronts for the same company.

If you're in the U.S., you can order from Canadian pharmacies and save a lot of money. It's not actually dangerous, even if the pharmacies are using overseas generics. The reason is that the Canadian pharmacies are still bound by Canadian drug laws, which means they have to demonstrate safety and efficacy. I've ordered drugs from Canadian pharmacies many times and found it not only reliable but insanely cheaper. They are really gouging us here in the U.S. with drug prices. It's criminal. There were also some drugs that I couldn't even get in the U.S. due to under supply that I was able to get through the Canadian ones.

If you want to verify the online pharmacy, it should have online credentials and it should have a physical address at a Canadian location. The ones in major cities are the most trustworthy.

If you're Canadian and you want to take advantage of the cheaper drug access of the Canadian pharmacies, all you need is a U.S. PO box. The pharmacies will accept an RX from a Canadian doctor, they just can't legally ship to anywhere in Canada because it goes against the economic agreement that makes the whole thing possible. So if you live a reasonable distance from the border, you just have to border hop, pick up your drugs, and then come home. If you have a copy of your RX with you, the border will wave you through, as long as it's a 3 month supply or less.

It sounds tedious, I know!... but sometimes we gotta do these things to save ourselves money. UC is expensive!

Where do you find specifically Canadian pharmacies that ship to the US? Are you sure these aren't Canadian companies with a Canadian address that refer your prescription to be filled by pharmacies in other countries?

If you're sure you're talking about websites that dispensing prescriptions from specifically and only Canadian pharmacies, could you please give me a link? I have been looking extensively but I've been unable to find such a thing. I'm particularly concerned with not getting counterfeit drugs, and I would trust actual Canadian pharmacies and Canadian government regulators to audit their supply chains a lot more than I would trust pharmacies dispensing from countries such as Mauritius.

I've checked out at least three dozen websites that have "Canada" in their name for filling my generic Lialda prescription, and each and every one of them refers this drug to be filled through a pharmacy in Mauritius.

One of my friend traveled as a tourist to Turkey, she bought me 4 boxes of Imuran( the brand name from Aspen not the generic ) for about 10$/box (100 pills) from a licensed Pharmacy near the Hotel! With no prescription! You need prescriptions there only for controlled substances.
With my insurance Imuran is about 600$ For one month supply.
Unfortunately She couldn’t find Canasa or Dipentum

A couple of years ago a primary care doc handed us a card without comment: RxConnected (Canadian and International Pharmacy Services). 1-877-385-5040 No website on the card. I got Mesacol from India from Sun Pharma as others have reported here from different Canadian sources. RxConnected is thorough and easy; their marketing is quite aggressive.

The assistant at my GI office told me that their patients often use Northwest Pharmacy. Northwestpharmacy is easy to find on the internet.

I no longer order from Canada.
