Measles not only weakens your immune system in the short term, bouts with the virus seem to wipe your immune
system's memory, causing the body to forget how to fight off things that you may have already conquered. For some people, this so-called immune amnesia may linger for months to years after an infection.

Hmmm. It seems to indiscriminately destroy the B-cell that comprise the immune memory. This results in general immune suppression.

But, if they way it kills B-cells could be harnessed to kill only B-cell that carry autoimmune response, then there is potential for just erasing any undesirable memory the immune system has for tracking the host.

I read on this forum that getting vaccinated is bad, causes immune problems and other health issues.

Skip vaccines, get sick and then your immune system gets amnesia?? Hmmm.... what to do?

This is pretty useless? Is it satire?

One comments on this forum about vaccines messing with immune system in a way relevant to autoimmune disease were uninformed and overly broad. There are a number of types of vaccine, and the risk/benefit profile is different for each condition.

Two, just measles virus (so far) depletes immune system memory. Nothing to do with vaccines directly. Making statements about all vaccines for all types of diseases does not seem to be engaging the topic so mauc as an anti-vaccine rant.

At an intellectual level, the idea is, to quote Spock "fascinating."

I worry that these 'resets' might not work as anticipated. As an example, people here were rather excited about triple antibiotics to wipe out the gut microbes and then reset them with the right bacterium through FMT. On paper, it sounded sound, and plausible this would work. Some of the folks who tired this ended up a lot worse off than they where at the start. As in reality, their were a lot more variables. Realities that bad bacteria like C Diff are super opportunistic, so wiping out other bacterium means it spread like a fire on a dry grass field. When we look at a system with only a couple variables, it's a win! When we realize that our bodies might have hundreds of thousands of variables we are not initially counting on being there, that exception versus reality are two very different things.

This is the reason why anti-vax proponents suggest not getting the MMR during the initial formation of the immune system, i.e. under 5 years old. You want those memory B cells functioning optimally so that they can be trained to recognize which organisms should and shouldn't be in the body, based on the mother's immune transfer from breast milk, vaginal birth, etc.

I've had many vaccines over my lifetime but getting the MMR in my 20's was the worst mistake of my life. My immune system became hyper after that. The first sign was skin allergies I never had before... I developed eczema and psoriasis within months of the MMR. Then I started getting seasonal allergies for the first time.

I have travelled a lot in my life, but within 2 years of the MMR I was living in Asia, and I contracted almost every food borne illness imaginable, when in previous global travels I had an iron stomach. A few years after returning from Asia, I developed UC. Research is turning up more and more that autism is caused by a dearth of healthy gut flora, and in the anti-vax community they are claiming that the MMR in particular can wipe out gut flora in susceptible people. I feel like this may be what happened to me, based on all the gut infections I got travelling after the MMR.

The MMR did something to my immune system that I can't explain, and no doctor will take me seriously. I am still dealing with the repercussions. I'm not anti-vax but I think people should be able to share their vaccination stories without being ridiculed. Like... I got cholera while I was in India, and thank god I had the cholera vaccine ahead of time. They have their place.

I think there is a major industry disparity between what we know of wild measles strains and how laboratory strains are being applied to vaccinations. Something isn't right. There are too many horror stories coming out to ignore this, but ignoring it is exactly what the industry is doing. And that scares me.

If wild measles can wipe out your immune memory and the MMR vaccine can cause auto-immune events in a significant number of the population that isn't being reported, then our options are not good.

Antivaxxers are a clear and present danger to everyone. There are now 70 people who have died from a Measles outbreak in American Somao and thousands more infected. Anti-vaxxing propaganda is reckless and irresponsible, it puts us all at risk. This is just the beginning of these self-inflicted outbreaks on all us by irresponsible parents and "doctors". Anti-vaxxing is junk science that was started with an extremely flawed paper from a former doctor lost his license and then over a decade later it took off with the popularity of social media and the internet.

Both Measles and Polio were either irradiated from most countries or well contained, now over the last 5-10 years we are seeing outbreaks and rises in infection rates and deaths.
