Some folks here have said they had liver function tests done regularly while on azathioprine/Imuran. My doctor only has me to getting a CBC every week for me for the first month, then once a month for 3 months, then once every 3 months. He did do a CMP right before I started it. Just wondering if anyone else's doctor only ordered CBCs. I've been on it for 3 weeks now.
Thanks!

I had Hepatic (liver) Function Panel test done, and Complete Bloodcell Count (CBC) done every couple weeks when first starting it, then monthly, then every other month, then every 3 months. Now it is every 6 months.

I have been taking Imuran for about
18 years, every 3 months I do CBC & Liver Function test.

I do a CBC and CMP, if the numbers look funky, then we will do a more in depth liver panel as well, but so far no need for that. I have been in Imuran for nearly a year now and get tested every 3 months. I also had a TPMT before going on Imuarn to see if I was a good candidate for the drug.

Thanks. I wonder why he isn't testing my liver. :/ Unless he plans to do that later? I've only been on it 3 weeks. But I feel like absolute crap most the time, so I might not be on it much longer because this is not a life.

I got the TPMT. That was fine.

I'd ask the doctor why he/she is not doing the liver function panel, if you haven't already. There's low odds of adverse reactions but important to verify that you are okay with the new med.

It's good that you got the TPMT. I am not sure what the recommended frequency is for liver testing once you've started. I ultimately didn't start Imuran, but when I was supposed to, I think the doctor said they'd check quarterly or every six months.

Ok, I'll ask him. I don't want him to think I'm questioning him all the time (even though I am, hahaha...It's my nature.)
