Oral Thrush

Hi! This is a minor issue but everyone here seems so helpful so I thought I would ask.

I've been experiencing reoccurring oral thrush for the past year. It all started when I want on Humira and I'm also on a steroid inhaler, which I don't think helps the problem. I have a regular RX for Nystatin mouthwash that I keep coming and going off of and when it gets really bad I go on Diflucan anti-fungal pill.

The thrush will go away for maybe a month or so, but it always comes back. Is there anything else that will help? Has anyone else experienced this? I asked my GI about probiotics and he didn't think that they would help -- he explained that the problem was in my mouth and probiotics are released in the gut. I'm not sure I 100% believe that explanation. I'm willing to try a good probiotic at this stage. Do others think that will help? I'm also open to other ideas.

I had oral thrush while on prednisone. My general practitioner doctor said he could give me Diflucan but the thrush would just keep coming back for as long as I was on prednisone. He said his asthma patients with steroid inhalers also have issues with thrush. Not sure how often you are using the inhaler, if the answer is a lot then it might be the reason why.

Thanks for all the ideas! I have ACV at home so will try that starting tonight. I've read about the candida diet, but honestly it feels too restrictive (my diet is already pretty restrictive....) although maybe it would be worth it to get this under control.

Yes, my PCP checked me for diabetes last spring. She was concerned that was part of the problem. My GI says thrush can just happen like this when you're on immune suppressing drugs.

I've tried a few inhalers and my pulmonologist just switched me (literally two days ago) to Symbicort.
