Shire lialda- then generic

I was doing so much better, blood work great, colon not bleeding, (had to quit my job over a year ago, on disability, so I’ve been away for a while embarrassed that I’m not working), That’s all I’ve ever done.
but anyways......

Rite Aid store was giving my pills that say S476, the bottle said made by shire Mesalmine DR 1.2gm, then my new order says Made by Activas, different looking capsule, still brownish red, but bigger with whitish powder on them. Well they took my into a huge flare in 3 days.

Is S476 the name brand pill for Lialda? Because my bottle doesn’t say the word Lialda only “generic for Lialda”

I will pay out of pocket to get it.
I’ve called my doctor , I’m going for name brand only.
I’m so confused by this shire name .

I don't know about the # on the pill, but the NDC code on those two labels has 476 only in the brand name label. The generic label has a 100.

It does seem odd that the new pill went to flare in 3 days. Even if the release was not at the optimal spot, there should have been a more gradual reassertion of the inflammation.

This time frame almost suggests some intolerance to the coating or to the inert ingredients in the new pill.

Anyway, your doc should be able to write for brand only. The insurance may need an appeal explicitly saying a bad result on the generic, and even then might have a higher copay. But, a good chance you will not need to go completely out of pocket.

S476 is for Shire manufactured mesalamines:

1.) Brandnamed Lialda. The bottle says lialda.

2.) Shire's own generic Lialda (which is likely identical to the above from the same production line). However, the bottle says generic mesalamine. Check the label, it will still say Shire on it.

Apriso brandnamed, Asacol HD generic (Zydus), Lialda brandnamed and its Shire-made generic all have a very similar MMX-based coating. Maybe others? Those are the ones I am certain of.
