Qing Dai Anyone?

Hi I’m new to this forum I’ve been suffering from UC since 2004 but mesalamine has helped put and keep me in remission with occasional flares. I had a baby almost 3 years ago and have been in a flare since my doctor has been reluctant to put me on biologics so I’ve been taking asacol while taking cortisone enemas for 2 years and every time I try to taper off the enemas I start flaring again. I also started taking imuran about a month ago but it makes me so nauseous and makes my diarrhea worse. I read about qing dai and ordered it and tried it once and it made my poop purple. Has anyone tried it? Does it work? Any information or advice would be great thanks

Why is your doctor reluctant to put you on biologics? Imuran made me super nauseous as well. I stopped it after a month because it made my life horrible. Other people have posted here about qing dai. You can do a search in the search box in the top right corner.

She doesn’t like the side affects So she keeps trying to taper me off of cortisone enemas while taking asacol. But she said after imuran If it doesn’t work well try Humaira. I’ve been on azathioprine for almost a month and I’m miserable I don’t know if I should deal with it for another month or two because I heard it takes time to work but my diarrhea is worse. I’m also taking it with asacol and I read that azathioprine interacts with mesalamine?

Qing Dai worked very effectively for me for about a week before I became allergic to it and got really I'll every time I took it.

That's odd. The side effects are not any worse than those of Imuran. I stopped mine after a month. I could not live like that any longer. I had zero quality of life on that medicine. I felt like it was poison. No, it doesn't interact with mesalamine. Remicade usually works better than Humira. I would try that first unless you just really want the convenience of doing it at home.

Traditional Chinease Medication (TCM) is occasionally talked about here, and Qing Dai is the one usually mentioned.

A scientific study describing Qing Dai:

"The second clinical was terminated early due to a report of a pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) . Hepatic (liver) issues were noted as well. In summary, based on the canonical primum non nocere (first, do no harm) medical concern, despite its potential as an anti-inflammatory drug, indigo naturalis should not be recommended because of serious adverse events, including PAH."

I have looked into it as well and agree with the post above. While it may be effective, there are safety concerns due to liver problems occurring in several small studies. Some have gotten long lasting remission from it but I would not take it myself.

I'm on Humira, but it hasn't done anything so far (it's been about 12 weeks). Starting this week, I'm moving up to weekly injections to see if that works. If it doesn't work after a month, I'm switching to Stelara or Xeljanz.
