Posting as an update reg DD.

DD got stomach virus in midweek of November after eating out.
GI office treated as stomach virus till Christmas. As per NP and general Physician some virus symptoms prolong as IBS.
After the Christmas lunch -Blood appears after 7 yrs !!. Food was sort of spicy.
GI office scheduled colonoscopy for Jan 9th.
DD got viral fever and severe cough on 1st week of Jan and lost many lbs. (Nov wt-125lb- Jan 7th wt-102lb).
Colonoscopy postponed to feb 14th.
40mg steroids started on midweek of Jan tapered 10mg every 5 days.
She felt fine on steroids.but always had rectal pressure.
Once in 5 mg steroid( our decision to split 10mg) her symptoms came back - loose/powdery stool and rectal pain and blood from rectum.
So today is the colonoscopy!! Dealing with this for past 3 months!!
Will know if the past fecal transplant still holds some protection to her colon!!.
I am kind of hopeful as her symptoms this time is totally different from the initial flare in 2011.
Hope and pray it is the internal hemorrhoids or proctitis !!

Tapering 10 mg every 5 days is really fast, to say the least. 5 mg every 5 to 7 days is probably more typical. I even slow the taper to 2.5 mg every 5 to 7 days once I'm below 20, and I let things stabilize before I continue to drop if any symptoms appear after going down to a lower dose.

I usually tapered 10 mg every week when I used to take pred (after 2-3 weeks at the highest dose). A couple times I tapered by 5 mg when I got below 20 or 30.

@CGK & Sara- The steroid was given to manage till the colonoscopy as DD got so weak due to cough and fever added to her stomach symptoms. I literally asked the NP for the short dose steroids as there was no earliest date for colonoscopy.

Is she taking any form of mesalamine?

Well!! The 2011 fecal transplant strength did not sustain!!
DD has moderate - severe UC pan colitis.
Staring :
Lialda 4 .8 gn daily
Mesalamine enema 4 gm every night
Budesonide 9 mg daily
Have to do prebiotic work up if the above medications did not help
Follow up with GI next week

@ CGK- DD stopped taking mesalamine I think few years back

I have a colonoscopy tomorrow and I’m scared. It’s a routine check but occasionally I have had more left side abdomen pain. I had my FMT in Aug 2012 I have continued Lialda (now generic) all these years.
