In the last year, my proctitis progressed to proctosigmoiditis, and my doctor added Rowasa Enemas to either replace, or use with Canasa. Since I started the enemas, I have had an up and down battle figuring out why I seem to get worse the longer that I use them. This last time, I decided to persist with them and do Canasa in the morning. Finally, this week, I realized that my symptoms do actually get much worse the longer that I use the enemas. Upon stopping the enema and using just Canasa, I had a pretty normal morning. I know that the Canasa is not reaching all of the inflammation, but after reading about
this, it sounds like I am reacting to the sulfites (possibly and hopefully). I tolerate oral mesalamine and the Canasa really well. My doctor finally prescribed the sulfite free Rowasa, and I cannot seem to find it anywhere. I have called several pharmacies and mine can only order a 7 day supply as the manufacturer says that it has been discontinued?
My question is, has anyone had issues with the regular Rowasa, and then tried the sfRowasa and that worked? Where do you get this medication?
Thanks so much! I really appreciate any insight or thoughts on what I should do......

I use the the sulfite free rowasa due to a sulfite allergy. If you are in the US, be aware that the drug is currently unavailable until May 7 unless you can get a pharmacy to order in the boxes of 28! I am currently out of it, just used my last one earlier this week. Hoping I will do ok for a couple of weeks while I wait for the new shipment.

I had to eventually switch from regular Rowasa to the sulfite free due to irritation and rashes. As was mentioned, the manufacturer let their supply run out (hard to believe I know since many rely on it to stay in remission). I have a few extras lying around so I should be ok until they restock next month.
Using the sulfite free Rowasa has really helped. They go in nice and cool and soothing, unlike the ones with Sulfite. Canasa does not use sulfite as a preservative so they have never been a problem.

My uc forum friend is interested in buying sf rowasa via the Polish pharmacy that imports foreign meds - do you know anything if sf rowasa is already available anywhere?

SfRowasa can be hard to find domestically here, sometimes. You can try compounding pharmacies in Poland, ask them if they can make it locally. The sulfite in enemas is a preservative, less shelf life without it.

Here's a link to the page and labeling information for sfRowasa. Here in the USA, pharamacists lookup and order medicaitons based on NDC coding. Not sure if this is something your pharmacists can do with our numbers?

I have had success ordering it from Walgreens but that is the only US pharmacy I have been able to get it though. I’m in California
