Vitamin E Enema

I am currently in a stubborn proctitis flare, on day 5 of trying the "make your own" Vit E enemas ( using tocopherals) following what I have read online. I am doing the Vit E in the morning and the Betnesol at night. I thought maybe there was progress over the first 4 days but today after doing the Vit E , I held it in for 2 hours had a bowel movement and it expelled clear mucous with blood ( blood which I hadn't seen in the previous 3 days). I continually get clear mucous. Do I keep trying this Vit E or could that has caused blood to resurface? any thoughts/ comments on your experiences with this would be amazing. Thanks

Thanks for the reply! Do you think I keep trying it? It did seem to help for a few days with reduction in mucous... so its very odd how on day 5 all of a sudden it has made me worse? Maybe I inserted the enema akwardly?

I have been on SCD diet for like 10 years since my diagnosis ( go on and off here and there), strict on it now during flare. I take a million vitamins. My lingering symptom in this flare is clear mucous strands attached to the first piece of bowel that comes out, I always have it. Should I be sitting upwards after inserting the betnesol to hit the very end of my rectum? like is there anything I am missing here?

I feel like I'm going to try a month on Betnesol before upping meds, it's only my second flare, but if I don't heal I guess I will have to try something stronger, thanks again!

No one here that I know has had any success with Vit E enemas.

Is it betnesol enema...and yes, use it once or twice a day with the Ok of the doc and get rx to reflect that. Can you not use mesalamine?

Are you on probiotics?

As far as fiber supplements — I use Metamucil powder which is made from psyllium husks. I take a heaping teaspoon which probably amounts to a tablespoon at night. I don’t mind the taste. I’ve tried off brands or generics but don’t care for their flavors as well and some seem to be grittier.

I would start smaller doses though and see how you do. I stay away from any powders or food products containing inulin because it gives me lots of gas which I find both painful and embarrassing. 🥴 But your mileage may vary.
