Bright red blood

A couple days ago there was a lot of bright red blood on the paper and some on the stool. Today it happened again, but this time there was some in the water too. BMs are formed (1-2x/day), no signs of a flare at all. I have never seen blood this bright before .. when flaring it's always darker like a maroon color. This is as bright as if I cut my finger. I have no pain at all.

I thought it might be an internal hemorrhoid (doc always mentions them when I get scoped though I never had any problems with them) and I used a cortisone suppository. Yesterday no blood at all. Now this AM I see it again.

Any ideas on what this could be and what I should do? Is it ok to use the suppositories for a few days for hemorrhoids? I had them to treat inflammation from flares.If it is a hemi how do you treat it?

I’ve been in a similar situation for about 2-3 months on and off.

I’ve seen my GI and family doc. Both say Internal hemmerhoid and or fissure. I have a definite bump just inside my anus about 1-2cm inside. I have some pain sometimes after a harder stool after my bm. Sometimes itchy. I am having 1 bm a day in the morning. My bleeding is bright red, on the stool. Steaks sometimes and sometimes more like a patch on the outside of the solid stool. It’s usually on the last couple pieces.
No other symptoms than described.

The morning after using an enema (I use them for maintenance twice a week) I am seeing more steaks.

I have used Proctocedyl suppositories prescribed by my doctor which help but when I stop again it acts up. This is a low steroid suppository to treat fissures and hemmerhoids I think. Anusol over the counter didn’t really work for me.

I’m going to have to accept that this is not a flare as doctors have said so and many others have as well. And my symptoms are not at all flare consistent but I do hate seeing the steaks of red every few days.

Interested in others comments.

I was diagnosed in 2001. I am under control with Remicade. I have continuously had trouble with hemorrhoids of all kinds. I have had two hemorroidectomies, a fissurectomy and have had banding done most recently 4 times a couple of years ago... And I still have problems. Bright red blood is a hallmark, I get palm sized blood clots at times. it is HOrriBLE. Mine have caused severe anemic issues and affected my hemeglobin, hematocric and iron levels. I have been transfused with blood twice in my life and last year had 15 iron infusions (Venefor) I just finished a series of 5 iron infusions yesterday. All this is to say that you should try to do what it takes to control hemorrhoids. There are more serious medications to help than just suppositories. Good luck

CC, with your history of internal hemmies, this would be my guess. Went through this with my husband, however, he does not have UC. I suggest calling your pharmacist & ask him about the enemas you are using & what he could suggest you try OTC. You will get a better & quicker response more than likely by talking to the pharmacist.

kweeks ... I was wondering if maybe the enemas I use could have irritated something. I use mesalamine enemas daily. Maybe I scratched the hemmie. Hope it settles. Blood freaks me out. Sucks that you are dealing with the same thing for so long, but at least you are stable otherwise. Gives me hope

Taylor ... that sounds awful! When I was in my last flare I had to get a blood transfusion and several iron infusions. The way anemia zaps your energy is pretty horrific. I was barely functioning and passed out a couple times before they discovered how anemic I was. Hope that things settle for you. What other meds are there for hemorrhoids?

Susie ... I had left a message for my doc and heard back from his office saying it was ok to use the suppositories I have and to let them know if it continues or gets worse. The suppositories are prescription hydrocortisone so better than anything OTC I could get I think

I REALLY hope it's just a hemmie. It's taken me too long to get symptom free and I definitely don't want to flare again ... especially with everything going on right now.

CC, so glad to read that your dr got back with you & didn't leave you hanging for a few days. I hope you get to enjoy being symptom free a very long time!!

Proctosol and Cortifoam are two RX drugs that have helped me with my hemorrhoids. Ugh I literally hate them. Sit in a warm bath helps, keep the area clean which helps more than you would think.

I haven's seen any blood since Friday AM. On Fri & Sat I used 2 suppositories/day. Sunday I used a suppository in the AM and enema at night. I am going to continue the AM suppository for a few more days. Hopefully this will have calmed the hemmie or whatever and things continue to go well. ~fingers crossed~

Good to hear. Are they steroid suppositories, mesalamine, or anusol type ?
