Dermatologist wants me on doxycycline for a month.

I think I’m battling a stubborn case of perioral dermatitis, an irritation around my lips. Topical treatments are not helping so my dermatologist, who knows I have UC, prescribed me low dose doxycycline for a month.

Long before I was diagnosed, I had some mucous and other IBS type symptoms, but only a year after I had taken a combo of doxycycline and amoxicillin for a few months did my UC flare and begin bleeding. I’ve been in remission since starting Lialda.

Think I should suspect doxy enough to refuse taking it or trust that now I’m under treatment? Not sure what else to do. I really want my facial burning to go away. I will ask my GI his opinion but I’m curious if anyone has much experience with doxy.

I was on and off minocycline for years before developing UC. Then, after being in remission from my UC symptoms for about 12 years, I went on a low dose doxy for rosacea type breakout and experienced the worst flare ever. My symptoms had already started to show a bit after several months of stress, but I took the doxy anyways forgetting about my past experience with mino. I don't know if the two are related, but it has since caused me to stay away from antibiotics unless absolutely medically necessary (as occurred a little over a year ago with a staph infection).

I ended up stopping it after 3 days. I am just too nervous. I see my GP tomorrow to talk about other options. Should I worry after only taking 3?? 😬
