Colonoscopy on friday, scared...

Hi everyone!

I have been expecting a call for a routine colonoscopy for a few months now. I figured that they were postponed due to the COVID situation. I just got a call from the hospital and they offered me to go on friday morning. Since I am starting to flare, it would probably be a good idea for me to go. At the same time, I kinda freaking out with the COVID situation. There are not that many cases in my area, however, the hopsital where I would get the procedure done Is the hospital dedicated to covid patients. It's not very tempting for me to go there right now. I am not on immuosuppressants, but I am not in remission either, so I feel a bit vulnerable. I am also going to talk to my GI on wednesday so I will ask her her opinion.

Any advice or input would be appreciated.

I just spoke with a friend of mine who gave birth recently in the hospital and stayed a few days and she reassured me quite a bit They are extra careful.

I had a colonoscopy scheduled for last week, but cancelled. I just don't feel comfortable increasing my exposure to new ppl or new environments right now. Especially since I'm in an active Crohn's flare. Also, not being able to have someone accompany me inside for such procedures makes me a bit uneasy.

My GI also now wants me to have an MRI...not sure how soon I'll be scheduling that either.

I hope I don't make you or anyone else question their decision to greenlight procedures, just tossing my thoughts in the ring for others who may be weighing options.

@Lili35 You're right, it's not a simple situation at all! (As if having UC/Crohn's weren't hard enough already lol.)

I agree with your partner. I'm planning to schedule my procedures a few months out -- maybe for July/Aug. True, there's no guarantee things will be any better then, but I feel like time will tell.

Not sure what I'd do if I were you and was long overdue for a scope. Have you voiced your concerns to your GI? If he's understanding, he may be willing to let it wait a few months (to see which way the pandemic will go). You say you're at the start of a flare...will your GI give you meds to help with it? That may be the best option, since you could postpone and also not be in a flare whenever you do go for the test.

Well, I went in for my colonoscopy yesterday and everything went really well. They asked me if I had symptoms before I could get in the hospital, then I was asked again when I when I went to register myself, and again by the nurse who prepared me for my colonoscopy. Everybody had a mask on and was very careful. Also, the hospital in general was pretty quiet. All in all it was a good experience. My doctor found mild inflammation on 30cm of my colon, and no polyps ( I often had them before). She prescribed salofalk enemas. I am not thrilled about taking them, but I am relieved that the it can be managed this way.

I just got back from the pharmacy and I am a bit surprised, because I have a box of 7 enemas and it says that it’s not renewable. It’s 4g each enemas. Is this typical.? I have been prescribed salofalk enemas in the past and it was for longer if I remember correctly... The pharmacist said it was a lot and asked why I was taking that since I was already taking the tablets. She asked if I was taking them because I was unable to poop.... Ugh no it’s because I’m pooping too much...
