I have noticed over the years of using prednisone that, in addition to having bone problems in my back, the skin on my hands is starting to get more fragile. It cuts and bleeds more easily. Maybe it's just my imagination, I don't know. My partner noted the other day that the skin on my hands is so soft and thin, which he enjoys, but when I pinched his skin there seemed to be a lot more to it. He has a lot more body fat than I do though. I don't know how long it usually takes for this kind of thing to set in. My osteoporosis in my lumbar spine tends to heal greatly with the use of weight bearing exercise, strontium, boron, magnesium, and a high mineral lifestyle. During my last remission period, I was able to gain back 13% of my lumbar spine in just one year, which according to my doctor is incredible. So I am not super worried about
that long term.
But my skin... this is a problem. I also notice that I can see my veins a lot more easily in general. I'm underweight right now and still recovering, so my fat layer is very small. That may also be why veins are a lot more visible. Also though, I think it might be the years of prednisone use. I'm down to 5mg now, but I was on 7.5mg or higher since September 2019 which is a long time. I know it has done damage to my body. I end up on this awful drug for lengthy periods. I tend to hover at 10mg or lower for the longest chunk of time, but I can be on 40mg for a while when flares start.
Before anyone asks the usual questions... no, I'm not on biologics or any other maintenance meds. They don't work. No, I don't want surgery. Yes, I have an alternative treatment plan happening, and it's working, but slowly. No, I don't work with my GI doctor. He can't do anything for me anymore... and I'm not here to talk about
that.
According to modern medicine, dermal atrophy can't be fixed, but they say the same thing about
bone loss and I seem to be proving that wrong. So I'm wondering what possibilities there are with repairing skin? Has anyone here had this problem and tried to make a go of it?

@VanJordan I am unable to help you with the skin issue youre facing as I am not as knowledgeable. But after reading your post I would like to know what alternative plan do you have for UC? I am currently in search for a strong plan to get my UC in control as modern medicines dont work for me either. Thank you

I'd think thinning skin from the steroid usage.

I know that's what it is, but what I'm asking is if it's truly permanent or if the body can eventually recover once off steroids.

Maybe a good question for a dermatologist? Maybe regain a small percentage of the lost thickness, I'd think not a full recovery.
