My routine colonoscopy was booked! (BC)

I have posted a couple of topics about this. I was due for my routine colonoscopy in June but they weren't being done at that time. I couldn't even see my GI in person so we had a phone appointment on June 2. My Mezavant will run out in August but she was hoping she would be able to meet with me in person before then.

I called her office today to check if I could see her in person yet, and the answer was no. So her assistant is going to message her to fax over a prescription renewal to my pharmacy. But the real surprise was that she could book my scope! She could book me this month already! Whoa Nelly, slow up there! I have other things happening this month so I booked one for end of August. That's soon enough for me, haha.

Yes I definitely need time to mentally prepare... plus I don't want it interfering with my anniversary plans (including a short VACATION), or my birthday plans!

They are also restricting how many people come into the hospital. I just received the confirmation and the instructions now say that you can only be dropped off and picked up outside. Your escort cannot come inside with you (unless they are needed for translation or other assistance).

Oh Arizona seems like a scary place to be right now with all the CV19 cases! Hope you are staying safe. My niece & her husband moved there but ended up moving back to Ontario after just one year, right before the pandemic started.

The border is supposed to reopen as of July 21 but I would expect it will be extended again.

The United States has been hit hard, so even if Canada opens the border, the US likely will not.
We here have an opposite situation to most places, People stay indoors in the summer because of the heat, and then you get a spread of Covid.
I've been in Az for about 15 years so I am used to the heat. I can even play golf no problem when temps are as high as 106 or 107. Not bad for a Canadian boy lol!
Are you nervous about getting a c-scope and possible covid exposure? I have a sneaking suspicion they will insist on it before they will start me on a biologic.

As for the border, I think it's the US who wants it open, not Canada. We want it closed! It sounds awful but we need to keep Americans out of Canada right now.

We've been slammed hard. I think it is a good idea to keep people who reside in the U.S. out! Although I will miss my yearly trip back. Makes me feel kinda homesick.

Anyway hope your scope goes well. Never fun but nice to make sure there is no dysplasia.

So if your "escort" can't come in, that means you have to stagger, all doped up, to the parking lot yourself? My wife always comes in with me and is there when I come out of the anesthetic. The versed makes me loopy for the rest of the day. Also she can remember what the doctor says. The versed makes me forget, so it would be pointless for the doctor to talk to me after.
I wouldn't be surprised if Mayo will also not allow anyone else into the facility. I'll have to check.

I had my colonoscopy in Vancouver on May 22 (soon after hospitals in BC reopened for surgeries/procedures).
My husband dropped me off at the door. I wore a mask in the waiting area (there were 3 other patients in there ‘physically distanced’ due to placement of the chairs).
After the procedure and once I was ready to go, a nurse walked me outside and to my husband. He was phoned 30 minutes prior to when they thought I was going to be discharged and told to come back to the hospital.

Straydog, I have always walked out after my scopes, just always with my husband accompanying me. I understand from Sproutlet that a nurse will now accompany me. Thanks for the good luck wish, I will need it with the prep.

What! I had not heard that about White Spot! Okay I cannot find any recent news about White Spot. I saw something from May saying they were struggling and losing money (like every other restaurant). They seem to still be in business right now, but I can't find anything saying one way or other if they are going to be shutting down.

I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy last month, with sedation. I've tried it without sedation; never again.

The procedure center (not a hospital) required me to get a COVID-19 test 3 days ahead of the procedure. All staff wore masks AND face shields. Afterward, a nurse called my ride, who was at the curb in a car. I was brought out in a wheelchair to the car. I think that's about as safe as it can get.

I am like cgk— I do not come out of the sedation easily and have to be given anti-nausea meds which makes me even more sleepy/dopey so yes I am worried about not having my husband there to talk with dr afterward. Plus it takes me so long to wake up/get over being nauseous that I am usually there for hours— 1st in and last out usually — so don’t know what my poor husband will do during my procedure as we live an hour away from the hospital.

I expect to have my colonoscopy scheduled after my next appt in September. Dreading the prep already as it makes me dehydrated and sick usually. Not to mention the rawness and pain from all the liquid coming out the back door! Or the migraine the prep gives me. Oh joy! 🤪
