Lilada vs. Pentasa

I’ve been using Pentasa for years with relatively good success but my GI has recommended I try Lialda as a good long term solution.

Does anybody know the difference? And should I be changing meds if one is working?

Why does your doc think you need the change?

Pentasa starts release at the beginning of the small intestine, Lialda starts release in the ileum...so both will cover the right side inflammation and throughout your colon.

What dosage and schedule Lialda would you be on...and what schedule are you on now?

Dosage for Lialda is 3.6g once a day. Current Pentasa is 3g once a day. She’s said we can talk about at the next appointment. Her thinking is Lialda is much better for the disease I have even if I’m doing well it makes sense to have the logical solution.

Also is the much difference between GENERIC Lialda and the real thing? Except for the huge price difference?

The generics feature the same dosage, 1.2 grams per pill, and once a day administration. The rest is different in the generics. Different coating, different inactive ingredients. As an example wet lialda pills are safe to touch (it's an MMX plastic coating). With wet Mylan generic lialda pills, the orange coating cones off on your fingers (it's a water absorbant ethacellulouse coating on mylans pills.

White makes brandnamed lialda and a generic on the same assembly line, only the bottle is different.

All you can do is try them. You wont know if they've helped the right side inflammation better until your next scope.

iPoop - what is “White”? Are they a company that does Lialda? I thought the company name was Lialda? Also is Lialda a more respected brand than Pentasa?

Maybe I should try a month on each?

Oops autocorrected. Shire makes the brandnamed lialda and a generic lialda with the same pill code, they look identical. Only the bottle is different. Likely off if the same assembly line.

Mylan, and a few others make generics that are different formulations.

The pills I have are brown colored with a number on them S476. Lialda right? You’re saying generic ones look the same as these?

when i was a bit younger i raced motorcycles and flew paragliders - then i turned into a wuss - back then, making a change happened without a thought - now, a little more restraint is involved -

if what you are doing is working, my old man advice would be to stay the course -

Based on your description I went to Drugs.com & looked this up on their pill identifier, this is Lialda. Drugs.com is a good resourceful site.
