uceris making things worse? Please help

Hey all,

Due to hypersensitivity of mesalamine, I had to go to Uceris 9mg for a few weeks to try it out. I've been on it only 11 days and so far my very mild symptoms have turned more intense with more bleeding, severe fatigue, feeling very unwell etc. I have never had a flare this bad in 20 years of UC and it happened quickly. Can this be a bad reaction to uceris and should ask GI to stop it?

Do I have to taper anything after 11 days.

No tapering and this happened to me once. My doc swore it didn’t make me worse but just didn’t work. I did try it again about 2 years after that and it didn’t make me worse, but also didn’t stop the flare . I think it should have helped by now, but others may have a different opinion. You can’t just stop it cold Turkey.

I imagine it’s not the uceris making you worse but your flare escalating but that’s just my personal opinion.

I took it for awhile but it didn’t help much and my GI told me there was no need to taper uceris. So you could just not take your next dose and if you see an improvement then you could say it was the uceris. Good luck! Sorry you’re going through this! UC sucks!

No tapering of Uceris unless you've been on it more than 6 months and even then they often don't taper it. It isn't making it worse - the hypersensitivity reaction that can occur with mesalamine doesn't exist with Uceris. It sounds like it just isn't helping. I'd ask your doctor about Entyvio. You may need to take a little prednisone as a bridge to Entyvio.
