Cane Sugar vs. Regula Sugar

Have you guys seen any difference in your UC symptoms or general health when consuming cane sugar vs your ordinary regular sugar? I have been working to avoid the syrups (i.e. high fructorse corn syrup, glucose syrup) but I do not yet have an opinion on cane sugar?

I have also been avoiding processed snacks but recently I bought Annie's honey graham crackers because they seem to be a company that avoids using bad ingredients but its still processed. Any opinion on Annie's foods in general? In your experience, are they really healthier or is that just another marketing scheme?

i don't notice any difference in sugar types or how they affect my body - i do know i need to put a bit more effort into avoiding sugar in general - but i do believe that real maple sugar has some bonified nutritional benefits compared to some other sugar sources -

don't know annie - but i'm sure she's a fine cook -

i don't do graham crackers no matter who's oven they come from - gluten-free here -

so are you an Annie's fan or not? Do you think its healthy? That was a good link - I'm disappointed to see that they have been bought by General Mills though. That means, even if they were healthy before, who knows what changes General Mills will make going forward.

I can tell the difference between cane and regular sugar. Cane sugar is supposed to be healthier. If I drink a soda with cane sugar I don't have any issues. Soda with regular sugar (not high fructose) thins my output. I don't have any issues with it but it does make my stools thinner.
Instead of taking the Milk of Magnesia my colorectal surgeon advised for my partial obstruction I switched to soda with justvsugar listed....and if I want to really thin it...high fructose syrup. It could just be me though..

Before Crohns I would not have noticed.

I don't quite understand the question because cane sugar is regular sugar. It is the refined High Fructose Corn Syrup which substitutes for regular sugar that is actually worse. There is some research indicating that HFCS can increase insulin resistance even more than regular sugar.

I am prediabetic so I monitor my blood sugar very closely to avoid morphing into full-blown diabetes. I have noticed that, at least in my case, HFCS increases my blood sugar levels more than regular sugar.

I have been able to buy raw unprocessed cane sugar and then white table sugar. To me they do taste different and my body reacts differently to all three.(high fructose included) I didn't even start in the brown sugar side. Perhaps that is what was meant?

BTW...I make my own soda when I absolutely have to have it...root beer with raw unprocessed cane sugar. If I use other sugar in my root beer my output from my colostomy is thinner. I also buy soda containing the others when my colostomy is pancaking. (Or in a flare I will drink ginger ale). I have to be careful of the high fructose soda as I crave it if I drink it for more than 3 days in a row....its like being a sodaholic. And eventually....after a couple of weeks of daily usage...I get trapped gas, bloating and a sore spot on the lower right curve of my intestines. Almost like an inflammation spot.

I just know I am better off with honey. The rest I use as I need to...very carefully.

My friend with IBD drinks soda and eats sugary snacks with no issue. (Sigh) I am envious.
