Bowel healing process

Hi everyone

What is the natural bowel healing process?

The steroids have as afore mentioned worked brilliantly, no bleeding and 1-2 stools, even none per day.

I did notice however the stools are mostly made of small bits. Like not large sausage bits yet, is this a sign of things getting back to normal still ?

Like although the bleeding has stopped, the overall inflammation may take longer?

Yes...part of healing and lessening inflammation. Is your son still on the 40mg?


It can also be an indicator of flare if one's been in remission and bms are starting to seem wonky...

Yes still the 40mg but I think we will be tapering from next Friday, 5mg per week. It’s worked, I think I’m maybe being paranoid.

I just think from experience so far the blood can stop but things may not still be completely right

When I was in complete symptomatic remission I was surprised that my colonoscopy showed microscopic inflammation. The next one ( sorry don’t remember how long it was before the next — 6-9 months maybe?) then showed no inflammation. So yes you can have absence of symptoms but the gut is still healing.

Noted as always...blood is not the only indicator of a flare. Yes...inflammation happens in increments and heals in increments.

Keep in mind that your son's symptoms are not as sensitive to the amount of inflammation.
Rather than paranoid...hyper aware is good in this instance.

I didnt ask, but how was the cecal patch biopsy?

He should be set up for another c-scope in a year for sure to make sure he's on the right track. I suggest no more suppositories ever for treatment or maintenance...unless added with the enemas.
Steroid rectals are always an option as additional to the mesalamine.

Waiting on the biopsie results this week but the Cecal looked healthy this time but it has turned into left sided actually slightly past left sided but only just past the sort of bend bit

Yay on the cecal patch. Let us know about the biopsies pathology report. I suggest getting a copy for your records.

Hi fokes,

Update, inflammation was left sided only but was actually moderate to severe. A bit worrying considering the symptoms where not matching. I think more moderate than severe.

We begin the pred taper tomorrow at 5mg a week.

Maintenance has to be enemas, which I’m happy as my son does not mind them. If they don’t work and hold remission then we may need immunosuppressive med. I am hopeful the enemas work however, open to what’s needed.

Glad to see him in remission again, all be it not proper remission as he’s on steroids.

Good news that your son is doing much better. Hope his taper goes smoothly. I do suggest he start the enemas soon tho.
