Hello, I have not posted on this website for years. I was dx with UC in 2013 but have been in remission for years on just 4 lialda a day, with the occasional canasa at night. I got my second covid vaccine in May and a couple weeks later started having odd GI symptoms. It started with bad gas and stomach pain, but i didn't think anything at first. I honestly thought I just ate something bad so i upped my probiotics, thinking that would help. It had been so long since I had a flare I didn't even think it could be UC.
Another week or so i started to have diarrhea. Again, I still thought i had eaten wrong, and i didn't see any blood (yet) so i changed my diet, but still continued to get worse. Anyway, a month or so after the shot and I was in a full blown flare. I had forgotten how bad flares are. Saw my gi, blood work came back showing inflammation, he put me on rowasa, i had never used that before, a weird thing to do every night. I've been on rowasa nightly now in addition to 4 lialda and i am better now but still not well, something is still not right. I have to go for a colonoscopy next month.
This vaccine has become so politicized that you can't speak out about
it, but I am willing to put money down that there will be studies in the future showing it causes flares in people with uc. Just a matter of time.
I would not have gotten the vaccine if i knew this would happen.
