Antibody test after Covid vaccine

What is offensive is that usually your "experts" have zero expertise in virology, vaccines or internal medicine & infectious diseases. Just because someone is a doctor doesn't mean they are experts in other fields. For that matter people can have doctorate degrees outside of the medical field and be called doctor. The link you posted is from a guy who is assistant professor of surgery.

I don't have a doctorate and I think accurate antibody testing would be a useful tool to determine how well vaccines work. I don't know that we have an accurate test at this point and no one else does either. Basically what that guy was saying is that if you had Covid you probably don't need the vaccine and that it could be dangerous for you to get it. That is not true. Do you really think the former president would have gotten the vaccine if it was dangerous? He had just had Covid a few months before he got the vaccine. And if you never had Covid why would testing for antibodies even be something to do before you get the shots? There is so much disinformation and misleading information out there that it's confusing for everyone. We all need to be careful to look at the source of the information to determine if this is just someone's opinion or if they are really an expert who can provide accurate information.

Covid is real and vaccines work for the majority of people who aren't immune compromised. Look no further than the rates of Covid hospitalizations and deaths in unvaccinated people vs those who have been vaccinated to know whether the vaccines are working. From the beginning the real experts have said that the vaccines work primarily to reduce or virtually eliminate hospitalizations and deaths and that seems to be true.

Interesting video, Twingirls. I hope he is right about the protection of the vaccines in people using biologics and that the anti TNF drugs can prevent serious illness if you do get it.

I've been saying this about anti-TNF drugs since the start of the Covid pandemic. They provide some protection against a cytokine storm.

Considering that magnesium and vitamin D are important for immune function and cellular resilience, a deficiency in either may contribute to cytokine storm in the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) infection.

There is nothing to lose with taking a blood test. Magnesium testing is problematic since it is so essential for your health that your body will cannibalize it from your bones and organs in order to maintain adequate blood levels.

My multivite has a good amount of vitamin D and a nominal amount of magnesium. I am an outdoors person who gets lots of sunshine at beaches and I play a lot of golf. So I was shocked several years ago when my blood levels of vitamin D were around 20 ng/ml.

Normal is 20-40 ng/ml but that was before covid. A good number is 50-60. Over 100 is flirting with overdose. For the past several years I have needed to supplement with 5,000 IU of D3 every day to maintain my levels around 55-60 ng/ml. Many other members here at HW do the same thing. This may at first appear excessive but just one day at the beach without sunscreen will produce about 25,000 IU of vitamin D.

I agree. This is all very confusing. I am in the Cedars Sinai study in LA and they send results with virtually no interpretation. Oh, also they measure in AU/mL, which is hilarious because I haven't seen that yet. So it's hard to compare/contrast. I think all these studies should give participants an option to commune on a message board if they choose to. It's an opportunity to find people in your local area who are in a similar boat.

I agree too. Im a little confused on what to do since I did have a really good response. So don’t know if I should get a 3rd vaccine or not. Can too much vaccine response be a bad thing? I dunno!

Who know but they are showing after 6 months with the Pfizer vaccine everyone is seeing decreased immunity. My assumption is they will be adding 65 and older to the 3rd shot group next month.

Medz -- I didn't see anywhere in that link where it said that it's dangerous to get vaccinated if you already had Covid. So if you are saying that's true, could you indicate where it says that?

Medz is referring to one of the studies that is showing that natural immunity is just as robust as immunity from vaccines. Those who advocate universal vaccine mandates should at the very least allow us to test our antibody levels to see if we have already recovered from Covid-19. The CDC concedes there may be 30 million of us, others have put that estimate closer to 90 million.

Below is an op-ed from last week's Wall Street Journal about a law professor challenging the university’s mandatory vaccination requirement for those with naturally acquired immunity. Also within his article is a link to clinical evidence that Covid survivors might suffer more serious side effects from vaccinations than those who have never been infected.

That was just an opinion piece written by someone who is mad about a vaccine mandate, Sarah. I googled looking for anything that said vaccines could be dangerous for people who had covid and didn't find anything like that piece. I did find some articles that said while some people who previously had covid might have side effects from the vaccine others don't have any side effects. Everything was saying that they should get vaccinated. I skipped anything that was an opinion piece. There may be a valid argument to be made that getting vaccines to other countries should take precedence over vaccinating people who have had covid before. But the vaccines are not dangerous.

I contacted my doc about testing my levels of vitamin D & magnesium and he added them to the lab order. He also threw in tests for B12 and Ferrotin. Hope everything is normal. I am feeling really good these days. Since I switched to every 4 weeks for my Remicade infusions I am completely symptom free for the first time since I was in remission on Entyvio in 2017. Been a long haul to get here. 2018 just totally sucked. I started remi in 2019 and things started improving but was I still mildly flaring and so we kept changing the dose/frequency. Hope this keeps working for a long long time.
