Enemas worked again

We have an appointment today for my son however, the last 2 weeks, zero blood, formed stool 1-2 trips per day.

The enemas seem to have worked, means hopefully avoid the next tier of meds again.

Just waiting on the calprotectin test.

Hi Quincy

Just permanently on the enemas (2g) nightly and 3g of oral mesalamine in the morning.

Waiting on the calprotectin results however, certainly seems in remission symptoms wise however, the doctor wants to make sure things aren’t simmering at all.

I’m happy as there has been brief talk ot another lockdown here and shielding etc. Wouldn’t want him missing any school if he had started the immunosuppressive meds.

I think the suppository maintenance was part of the issue. Eventually, he should be able to at least do a slow taper, depending on his next c-scope.

I'm just going to mention given his age, hormones may play a role in his UC symptoms through that phase. Since he is OK with the med regimen, it should allow the appropriate healing process. Especially through Covid and all the uncertainty.

Please keep us updated on how he's doing.

Thanks, he seems very good presently, hopefully he gets a few months anyways at least. He now does not mind taking the enema, its just part of his bedtime routine, and he manages himself. He rather this than putting up with the urgency.

Yes, I think the suppository is not good enough maintenance unfortunately.

Yes, he is 12 now therefore, expecting the usual pre-teen changes now lol! I have noticed hes becoming a bit more comfortable with telling people about his UC.

Your son is impressive...having to go through this at his young age and handling it so well. The learning process has worked for him, and great his GI is supportive with the meds he's using.

Let me know how he does when tapering.

Now doing enema every second night. Seems all good so far. Really happy with how things have went presently. Grateful for the enemas.

Were you told to stop altogether? I would suggest eventually tapering to maintenance of 2x weekly.
Just go along with the process. How long has he been on every second night?

He has moved to every second night and it seems fine. The doctor has written a continuous maintenance prescription so can pick them up from the pharmacy when required.

Excellent! Much less stress when one has the freedom, and not dependency on the doctor, regarding tapering.
