Thoughts on 2nd Covid vaccine causing huge flare?

Talked to my GP today and she said that although she will not write me a vaccine exemption letter, she does not think it's a good idea for me to get the covid vaccine. She said that she had five other UC patients who have gone into flares after getting the shot, two of them have been in remission for 10+ years and are now having the worst flares of their lives. This advice echos what my GI doctor told me two months ago.

I think a lot of people who get the shot are a-ok but many aren't, and there's no way to tell who's who, so you roll the dice when you get this shot.

My UC is so precarious and my flares usually so life threatening, that I won't risk it.

A co worker has been out sick with Covid for 2 weeks. She is considered a mild case because she hasn't been hospitalized. At the beginning she had the coughing and chest congestion for a few days that is typical of Covid but then it settled in her gastro tract with severe nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. She has to force herself to eat or drink anything and is extremely weak. She is a non-UC person. I shudder to think what getting a case like that would be like for a UC person.

I understand the fear of flaring. This virus is so darned weird in that no one knows how it will affect them if they get it. It's a roll of the dice either way.

If you are skipping the vaccine, please be extremely careful, keep distances and wear an N95 or KN95 mask as they provide more protection for the wearer than cloth or surgical masks do. Cloth & surgical masks were fine when everyone was wearing them as they helped prevent the wearers from spreading the virus. Now that few wear any masks at all (at least where I live) I stepped up to a higher grade mask that will hopefully protect me from others. Even though I have had 3 doses and have higher antibodies I really don't want to risk getting even a "mild" case.

fwiw -- co-worker was not vaccinated. She had a history of guillain barre syndrome so she shouldn't get any vaccines.

I had my first flare in 3 years about two weeks before my first shot (Moderna), and am still exhibiting symptoms 2 1/2 weeks after the second. Couldn’t have caused it but possibly kept it going, I have no idea. Started mesalamine suppositories within a day of my second shot & will look for more treatment following my early November colonoscopy.
