How is this even logical? First you won’t take an “experimental” vaccine (which it isn’t) but you’re willing to a toxic substance off label that is used to clean fish aquariums and another one that is used for horse deworming. On top of that bowl of crazy you’re talking about monoclonal antibodies which have been studied much less in Covid than the vaccines.

First of all when I said therapeutics I was referring to the new anti-viral treatments from Merck and Pfizer that are just coming out.

You won’t consider taking a vaccine that they approved but hey, there are these new experimental anti-viral treatments that will have emergency use authorization from the big bad FDA that you shouldn’t trust about vaccines.

I had the Moderna shot. Yesterday I got the Phizer booster. I feel a little achy, but nothing that Tylenol can't fix.

I've been reading about the new covid pill molnupiravir which is about to be authorised by the EMA. Apparently diarrhea is a common side effect. Now THAT worries me as an ibd patient.

You think they care? They are willing to take their chances with a deadly disease that has killed and disabled millions of people than to take a safe and effective vaccine.

Obviously a few people are fixed in their decision and nothing will change that (and i can understand that if you already survived covid without long lasting effects, then you might not feel as strong impetus to get a vaccine*.)

What worries me is people who are at risk from severe covid may decide not to get vaccinated on the basis of misleading claims, and if this forum serves as a platform for proliferating misleading information then that's also not ok, and when that happens the mods should step in.

And I would still take a covid pill if my doctor told me I needed to, just the same as I would take antibiotics if I needed to, even though both fill me with fear of a flare. I am already on the last drug before surgery so I've just accepted the odds are i will have surgery at some point.

*my neighbours who had covid in January bought a bunch of home self-tests for covid antibodies. They tested themselves every couple of weeks and when their antibodies dropped off (in October) they went and got vaccinated.

It's not about "sides". I am neither "pro vax" nor "anti vax". I am pro-science and anti-misinformation.
Do some basic statistics and risk assessment to arrive a decision, on presentation of facts. That is all.
That is why next time I speak to my doctor - who has hundreds of ibd patients - I will be asking him how many of his patients had a flare from a covid vaccine. Because if one person on a forum says that his doc is seeing 50% of patients flare with a a sample size of 8, it is still possible within the realms of statistics that this is an anomalous blip.

I am feeling especially grumpy today because the country where I live is now cancelling emergency cancer operations because the IC beds are already taken by covid patients.

Just an update.

Things are getting better every day regarding fistulas, mucus, and mini flare.

I did speak to my GI over the phone and asked him for a percentage of his patients that had flares after 3rd dose. He said so far .... about 2 to 5 percent have flared and so far none required additional meds to get them out of the mini flare. That percentage could be that high because so few of his patients have called in advising of the 3rd dose or complications. So getting an accurate percentage is difficult. But those are the ones that he knows of... That have actually called in and visited. So that's not 2 to 5 percent of his total patients in his practice...its 2 to 5 percent of the individuals that have called in , complained, and they have attributed it to their booster. He is not attributing anything to the booster because anything could have caused the mini flare. He thinks Most people ride it out for a week, don't call in, find that by then it's improving... and by week 2 they are back to their normal. He said IBD patients are pretty savy on their pain levels and if a flare feels like it is improving or not. So numbers but not real numbers....🤔

I haven't spoken to the infusion/infectious disease doctor yet... My infusion isn't for another 10 days or so. Will update then.

Me...I am planning on the 4th dose.

Thanks for the update and reporting what your doctor is seeing with his patients. I'm glad you are starting feeling better. 2%-5% is a long way from half of their patients, even if all the patients haven't reported.

A quick google will show that Dr. Pierre Kory does not have "impressive credentials". He's a quack. And any crazy congressmember on a committee can invite even the craziest of people to testify and CSPAN will carry it

Dr. Pierre Kory contracted Covid from his daughter. I thought Senator Ron Johnson would have vetted him before allowing him to testify before Congress.

But the other items I posted that were published in The Lancet and Science have never been discredited.

Thank you, Clo! This is super reassuring. I'm planning on a Moderna booster at the recommendation of my GI, and this insight is keeping me hopeful that my first incident may have been coincidental.

There are a few places, like university of North Carolina, running trials and tests on response to covid vaccines in people with IBD, according to which biologic they’re on, and those on entyvio are responding quite well. My antibodies more than doubled after my 3rd dose.

The problem with not vaccinating kids is that they can be carriers to other people and keep the virus spread going. I understand your fears tho. Our kids are precious — but I was very happy my son got my grandsons vaccinated.
