Elevated ALT and RUQ Pain

Hi Group.

I just got blood work done on Monday my liver enzymes ALT was at 87. Which normal range is up to 60. All my other labs were normal including other Liver Tests. But I got right side pain and just feel off. My GI told me he's not concerned but I can't shake this feeling that something is seriously wrong. I know UC can be associated with liver issues.

I did two weeks ago have a work trip where I drank extremely hard for a week straight but I was off alcohol for a whole week before my blood work. I only take 1.2g of Mezavant a day for my UC. The highest my ALT has ever been has been lows 50's in the past.

Does anyone have any ideas?

You could have it retested, for starters, just to see if it is an ongoing thing or just a temporarily higher reading. I think doctors are concerned when values are much higher than what you tested at. But ff you are concerned, why not get it done again and see if anything changes. Do you get these tests done regularly, so you know your baseline? I have kidney and liver function tests done every 6 months since I started taking Mezavant.

I do get tests regular that's why I was concerned that it was showing above baseline for the first time ever. I have had it in the 50's than go down in tests later on. I am hoping my body just needed some more time to calm down after what can only be described as a bender a week prior to testing.

It's just I have handled this condition so well, and every time I accept it's a part of me something else concerning seems to show up.

Mild high is 2 -3 times the normal levels...you arent in danger. Plus, all other enzymes were in normal range.

Note that bingeing alcohol is one of the worst things for your liver...so it makes sense the elevetion is that. Be retested in a month.

Hi Quincy so you feel my ALT being at 87 is really only slightly elevated? Where mild high usually begins at 180 to 240?

The google monster really got me on this one.

Yes, an ALT of 87 is only mildly/slightly elevated. At one point mine was in the 500s (due to reasons not well understood when I was really sick), and a week later it was back to normal.
