How soon can I expect to pass a bm? So far, nothing. However I hear bowel activity.

Don't rush it. You're on pain meds and your body is in shock from the surgery. Sometimes it takes awhile.

I think I was 24-48 hours, it was a while.

Haha. I know what it's like to celebrate a poop. Lately, I celebrate no poop. I will celebrate poop with you though today!!! Congratulations!

It's a fine line between pain management and pooping - too many opioids and you can't poop.

So happy for you, Andreita! Getting home and having the worst behind you (no pun intended, but it works lol) will make this the best Christmas you have likely had in a long time!

I know I made that mistake before. I'm only taking what I need. I've been pooping regular now and I'm loving it

I was in for 7 days for my takedown surgery.

Today was a disaster. Not because I did not do well. They decided to keep me.

My iv started leaking. I called the nurse but my call button was kept being turned off. I was promised the 3rd time by a different nurse that she'll let it stay on so my nurse can see it and come to me. It was turned off a fourth time. I call again. My nurse comes in and tells me to stop calling. I clarify "did you just say I need to stop calling?" She backpeddled and said "no you can keep calling but I couldn't come because I had a patient who couldn't get up." She never mentioned to me she was short staffed today. Remember, I wanted to go home and not be a burden to y'all.

Couple hours later, I finally get a new iv. Well, it's been past 4 hours and I have called punctually for my pain med. Other nurse comes in and then my nurse. Says "give me 10 minutes". An hour and 15 minutes go by. I'm already screaming in pain. The nurses talk among themselves. My nurse defends herself saying it's the patient's responsibility to call. I said I did a couple minutes after it was due. "oh I wasn't in the building I was on lunch". Guys. I want to go home. I can manage my pain, my open wound and my nausea better and more punctually at home. My surgeon is already on his Christmas vacation

You’ll have a surgeon visiting you tomorrow - they will have another surgeon cover you surgeon’s duties.

I was mobile and I’d stop by the nurses station to change my IV. I’m not sure that is possible during Covid times.

The nurses station was empty and yes I have other doctors visiting
They were the ones wanting to keep me in the first place

I wanted to leave and they were discharging me, the head nurse for the floor came over to me and asked me to stay because I didn’t look well. All I wanted to do was to go home. 12 hours later I had a 102 fever from an abscess. That’s why I was in the hospital for 7-8 days for my take down surgery. Don’t rush it.

Just be careful. Make sure you are ready.

They turned off my IV, gave me oral meds only--for at least 36 hours prior to my release-- to make sure the oral route would work for me, plus I had to have blood work indicating I was hydrated and my Egfr was good. Oh... And I had to eat and take zofran.

My surgery was on Thursday evening, everything oral on Friday night and I was discharged by 6 am on Sunday. I was there for about 60 hours total during a surge. It was scary being there and scary being out so quick. As long as you have help at home and they say you are ready you should be ok.

For me--I had difficulties after being released and wish I had listened to the nurse that kept suggesting I stay. My incision opened back up. We decided to let it heal from the inside out as long as it didn't bleed too bad...and then I went into acute renal failure at 6 weeks post surgery. So I wouldn't push it too much.

Glad to hear that you are pooping!!

That sounds scary. No worries I will listen to the doctors. I am just being homesick is all. Eating is great. I can decide when I use the bathroom. That's the most normal I have felt since a very long time. Nausea has gotten better.

Why did your kidneys fail?

A, I've always found the weekend nurses are the worst! Hopefully, the rest of your stay will go much better. You need to stay as long as necessary, you sure don't want to make a return visit.
