Hi
Asking for a friend who has completed 2/3 surgeries . She has high output with loop ileo and is really dreading the third surgery and j pouch training. This current ostomy sounds like a nightmare .. raw and irritated around stoma and high output . How bad is it after j pouch?

It's pretty bad. I was going constantly and I had very low capacity immediately following surgery. On the positive, the procedure itself was really quick and easy. My loop was a nightmare and I found the adjustment to the pouch to be much easier than dealing with the loop. Once things leveled out, the pouch has been a lifesaver for me. I still go more than I'd like to, but my case was so severe and life altering that I wasn't left with any other option besides being dependent, unable to work, and homebound, so I am very thankful for my pouch even though it's not perfect. It gave me my life back.

I forgot to mention the butt burn after surgery... That can be bad too. Still to this day I avoid high spice level. I used to be pretty risky when it came to spice, but uc put an end to that, and now with the pouch I don't go over medium. Worse than hot butt, is sore butt from over wiping. Get the handheld bidet bottle, but use it carefully because too much moisture can cause fungal issues.

The loop is tough at first but as her body adjusts to it then it gets much easier. My loop was brutal, I was probably in the hospital for almost a month with it. I had super high output so I couldn’t go home, they gave me all sorts of meds to slow my transit time down. Finally they gave me tincture of opium and it helped.

I went home for about a week and ended up back in the hospital for 7 days due to a kink/blockage.

I think I had my loop for 14-16 weeks and at the end it started to behave more like my first ostomy.

Everything went fine with mine. Rarely any issues after each surgery. Output wasn't tough to deal with
