This is a new suggestion from the IBD team. Did I hear the doctor say 2 Tablespoons? It says 2 teaspoons on the container. Some of our most trusted posters report that they use Metamucil. How much do you use? Does time of day matter?
I notice an increase in frequency and wonder if that could be a result of the product, or more concerning, a sign that Remicade is not helping.
I will bring this up at my next appointment, but this seems like too trivial a question to justify a separate call.

I take one tablespoon in the morning, one in the evening. Per instruction of my GI, years ago.

Many thanks Quincy. It makes sense to use less of the sugar-free (that's what I have) if the bulk of this granular product is table sugar. And splitting it like Serenity does would help, (if you can remember the second dose). Serenity, do you use sugar-free? Anyone else willing to share their "recipe"?

I suggest taking it with a meal....unless you have diarrhea, it's suggested to take it between meals. I use capsules and take them with breakfast and supper.
If you get cramping, it could be from the sweetener or you're taking too much.

I was incorrect regarding the unflavoured and no sweetener one...seems teaspoons is the measurement. Yes, makes sense about
the sugar...although I know some who do take a tablespoon 2x daily of the plain powder.
Let us know how you do on it.

I use sugar-free. And I just remembered - when I first started using it, I used less and slowly increased the amount, just to get my system used to it. Didn't have any cramping or anything. I try to take it at end of breakfast and supper. You could try the capsules too, like Quincy uses. I didn't like them, but everyone is different.

I don’t like swallowing all those capsules either so I take the liquid. Very important to drink it quickly after mixing as it thickens quickly. I use the sugar free one (even though we’re not supposed to used artificial sweeteners) because the one with sugar is harder to find. I don’t like cheaper off brands because they tend to be grittier in my experience.
I take it before bedtime. I use a regular teaspoon (not a measuring teaspoon but a regular spoon) and heap it as full as it holds which I assume is a tablespoon or so.

I take 2 tablespoons of psyllium in the morning. I mix 1 part Metamucil with 3 parts Starwest Botanical psyllium (It makes it taste better and cuts back on sugar). In the beginning I had a difficult time adjusting to it for about
6 weeks. I've been taking it for more than 10 years now.
