Oh, I know! Hospital food is often pretty terrible!! I'm vegan and it was hard to even find much that met my diet.
I hope they send you home with sufficient meds to help any pain and also of course to treat the flare.

I started a mild flare about a month ago. Im unvaxxed and tested pos for omicron this past friday...i dont know what is going on but it has tamed my flare to a degree, who knows in a few days once im over the coof i might return to my normal flare.

My boyfriend might have covid. He's getting tested tomorrow. I saw him yesterday. We are both in remission on Xeljanz. He hasn't been boosted yet (vaxxed about 7 months ago), but I got my booster 10 days ago. He had been meaning to but hadn't done it yet.

I was just at the GP this morning for a routine appointment and she said there's a subset of people who even never had colitis, yet are getting severe bloody diarrhea from covid. Yikes.

Sara sorry to hear, I hope both your vaccines and xeljanz keep your bowel quiet.

And Deen hope you continue to improve. Hospital food is the worst. I remember after my first colonoscopy and worst ever flare the hospital offered me a sandwich when i came round. At that point i couldn't tolerate any bread/gluten and it was the last thing I felt like (even though i was starving!)

Hi Poopydoop,

I can confirm that's true, the gastro team told me before they discharged me yesterday. I'm home now and been put on pred 40mg tapering. I'm very pleased that I have done everything to avoid it since I had it 2015 as this time it's worked.

Now I'm dealing with horrific side effects of if and loading my body with vitamins and supplements.

@Sara and everyone on this thread, thank you all for your concern and asking me

Yes, but it’s not everywhere yet.

It’s basically a booster for the original vaccine and an additional part of it is for omnicron.

You can, but I opted to get just the new COVID booster because it always knocks me out. I typically wait to get the flu shot until October.

I got my 2nd shingles and flu shot yesterday. It knocked me out for the afternoon. I feel fine today. They wouldn’t let me get them in the same arm.

The pharmacy didn’t have the new Covid shot yet even though they let me make an appointment for it online - ugh. I cut my losses and got the flu & shingles vaccine instead.

I’m not old enough to qualify for the shingles vaccine but I wanted it because I’m immune compromised so I asked my GI for a script and my insurance agreed to pay for it. I’ve heard that shingles can be brutal if you get a severe case and this vaccine is pretty effective against it.

@Sara, I would not get both together, in fact I would wait 2 weeks in between each one. I do not get my flu shot until the first of November. I also take Tylenol for 24 hours after getting my flu shot, knock on wood I've never had an issue. What got me started was my boss was treating colon cancer & his oncologist told him to do this. Of course, every single one of my dra say that when someone gets sick after the shot, the flu was already with them.

I wouldn't get any of the above together...I always space them all. Even vaccines for my cat are spaced.

Thanks all. I guess I just wanted to make sure they'd still both be as effective. I never seem to have side effects from shots other than a sore arm. I've only had the original 2 Moderna doses and then a Pfizer booster in January. I know some of you have had more. I work from home and am not around that many people.

Keith: I got my shingles shots earlier this year. Xeljanz increases the risk very slightly. My insurance paid, thankfully. My doctor had to fill out a form though, I think (can't quite remember). I got a pneumonia shot a year or 2 ago too per my GI's request. Insurance also covered that one. I just walked into CVS, didn't need an order or anything. Hope you can get the covid one soon. That website you gave me said they're available in my area but I will call to make sure.

Susie: That's interesting about the oncologist. Is it because they won't be as effective taken together? Or are you saying the Dr said the Tylenol thing?

Q: Nice of you to take such good care of your kitties. The thing that worries me most with cat vaccines is the slight risk of cancer at the injection site. But I know certain vaccines are better than others from what I've read. Pumpkin is fully vaxxed though.

You can take both shots together. Just seen a friend post a photo on Facebook... she had one in each arm.
I've had loads of vaccines (i collect them...) and the only ones that I had significant side effects from were the covid vaccines. I never react to flu vaccine.
I've also taken many vaccines at the same time... not an issue.

I’ve already had 4 moderna vaccines (3 were full doses, last one was half dose) and am thinking about getting Pfizer this time. Mainly because I’ve had pretty bad reactions to the moderna and it seems some people have had less reaction to the Pfizer (I also heard that the moderna vaccine is “stronger” than the Pfizer but don’t know if that’s true or not). My last booster 4 months ago (moderna) I ended up with a 3 day migraine that nothing would wipe out so I’m understandably worried about another one.

I haven’t read any recommendations about switching vaccine brands at this point. Anyone have thoughts or know more?

My IFD doctor recommended that his immune compromised patients try to split it up between the 2. I have 2 Pfizer and 2 Moderna. Going in this time for a Moderna -only because for me... It was the one that showed antibodies right after the shot... But they disappeared after my Remicade infusion. We are hoping for a response this time. We do not have the Moderna here yet.

He did tell me that I could take flu and Moderna at the same time if I had to... Different arms. He does prefer that his patients do 1 at a time in case there are complications if possible.

Keith.... Shingles is awful. I was exposed to shingles, saw IFD, he had me on anti Virals for 10 weeks plus I went in for DNA blood testing to see if I showed any chicken pox antibodies--and it always came up 0...like I didn't react to the exposure (I didn't have chicken pox as a child,) Over a year later I had horrible intestinal pain, they thought it was an obstruction. CT showed some inflammation but not enough for my pain. The ER sent me home, next morning I was in IFD office because a thin red line of dots had appeared on my back wrapping around to my front. I immediately started high dose antivirals. (Took blood, came back as shingles.) In the interim I started breaking out all over with chicken pox externally and internally. I was in severe pain. COVID was running rampant. They think I had chicken pox and shingles concurrently. IFD doc at Dallas Baylor said he hadn't seen this happen before...(concurrently) and people with IBD taking biologics have chicken pox/shingles attack them internally more. I was supposed to be doing shingles vaccine but have put it off. If you can...get the vaccine.

I was tired afterwards and woke up this morning with a bunch of energy. 24 hours since the shingles and flu shots and now I am starting to feel the effects - achy and tired.

I’m due for my Stelara shot next week so I’m trying to get my vaccines before that; I’ve done that for all of my Covid vaccines.

Thanks all. CDC says it's fine to get flu and covid vaccines at the same time so I'll likely do that soon. They recommend the flu shot in September or October.

In BC, the Ministry of Health is going to be scheduling flu & COVID shots at the same time later in the fall.

I’ve heard some speculation that at some point the Covid and the flu shot will be combined into one shot. And… eventually the flu shot will be improved by using RNA tech to improve the effectiveness.

I got my flu shot two weeks ago. I'm debating on whether to get a second booster. I'm going to check with my doctor first.

Still No new boosters around me. The pharmacist didn't have a time frame either. The other place I called said they ran out the first day... And they were doing walk ins... No appointments. Sigh....
