Was told I shouldn't take Xeljanz bc of high cholesterol

Did the pain go away? If not, you might want to go to the ER. I highly doubt the Xeljanz could have caused a problem that fast unless it was an allergic reaction. Maybe just anxiety?

fwiw --- I randomly get a sharp chest pain once in a while but if I move around it goes away so I assume it's just gas and moving around gets it to disperse.

Yes, it did go away. Sorry. I think I'm just really anxious about this med! Thanks for checking on me!

Making these types of decisions produces alot of anxiety. I frequently have those chest pains. They freaked me out so much I went to a cardiologist, had imaging done to look for calcification in my heart....only to learn I have a good heart... I felt sorta silly-yet grateful that I wasn't having a heart attack.

When I feel that tightness/pain my cardiologist told me to raise both arms above my head, take deep breaths and sorta wave your arms from side to side. He thought it could be from muscle spasms.

I am sorry you are going thru this. Please let us know how it goes.

Clo: Thank you so much! I will try those exercises next time. I do get those tight fleeting feelings in my chest from time to time, and yes, today I was extra anxious about the new med and hyperfocused on every little sensation! I actually went to an ER once many, many years ago for weird chest pains, before I even had UC, and yes, they told me I was fine, too. Better to be safe than sorry! Thanks again!

Wanted to update this that my very next cholesterol test after I posted this was normal. And every test thereafter has also been normal. I never took the stations longer than about a week.

Funny reading back over how anxious I was when I first started xeljanz. I was convinced it was gonna kill me. Lol. Fast forward 7 months and it's the best UC med I've ever taken...knock on wood.

My family doctor just said if Xeljanz is my last option, then we can talk about statins so she didn't seem eager for me to take them either? Do people in their 30s generally take statins?

Are statins not bad? I am a little overwhelmed and depressed and don't know how to make these decisions at this point.

Seems like I read something about Statins (Lipitor) and Ulcerative Colitis and it having a positive affect on UC. Might try to Google. My GI was also wanting me to start Zeposia but I was concerned about it also.

I read that too. If you read my update in my last response, my cholesterol is fine. It was just one high reading.
