Arthritis and UC, Anti-inflammatory pills

Hello,
I am in remission with my UC. I take 1600mg/ day of Asacol for UC maintanence,
I have an old spine injury that has now became very arthritic and painful. I would love to take an anti-inflammatory , like Naproxen (Aleve). I'm scared to because I was taking Advil when my first UC flare happened. It could have been coincidence, not sure. I am trying CBD oil, but it's not helping that much. My Gastroenterologists told me there is no studies that show a link between anti-inflammatory pills and UC. He told me that he has patients that take them, but go slow and stop if I have any UC symptoms.

Does anybody with UC take anti-inflammatory, Advil...?

Has anyone tried topical NSAID creams for localized arthritic flares? I see them in the aisles but never tried them.

I have a prescription for a pain cream for my knees. It gives me loose stools if I use it daily. So it's a few days on then a week off.

I have taken Aleve for my knees a few times and excedrine. Nothing happened and I took them 3 days in a row. I was scared to continue because my GI was predicting doom and gloom if I continued to take them. (yet for some reason the knee pain cream was ok.... Hmmmm)

People take them with no ill effects. I don’t. But if I were to hurt bad enough, all bets are off.
