My thoughts from 2017.

Need to fire up this thread again, due to more info. I may post papers at a later date.
Anyhow.
Selenium needed to make GPx glutathione peroxidase, and other seleno enzymes. Max safe dose 200 micrograms/day.
GPx reacts faster and better than catalase with hydrogen peroxide.
Selenium will also transport mercury out of the body if that is important.
Need NAC and glycine to make more glutathione, depending on diet might get enough cystine, not sure on that.
We can't make enough glycine there is up to a 10 gram shortage/day.
Need folic acid and B12 to reduce homocysteine which can inhibit some of the glutathione enzymes.
Zinc very important.
Vitamin D will up-regulate catalase.
Vitamin E will down regulate GTS,glutathione transferase, not good low in UC.
Some probiotics and other bacteria make peroxides.
May explain my bad reaction to fresh lacto fermented pickles.
If I supplement with SOD superoxide di****ase I get worse. Why?
SOD converts superoxide to hydrogen peroxide.
So if not enough catalase and GPx around, excess hydrogen peroxide is left over.
When this happens then, even worse hydroxyl radical is formed, then you get the Fenton reaction going with iron.
We also generate lots of hypochlorous acid, might be a good idea to add a bit of taurine.
But not too much, dont want to make a lot of taurine conjugated bile, which may feed SRB's.
Glycine will help to balance bile taurine.
There is also a Selenium relationship with alpha-1-antitrypsin which is a mucosal anti protease.
B complex might also be a good idea.
Last but not least, vitamin C makes lots of hydrogen peroxide in the presence of
copper ion.
In the elderly you can restore glutathione levels to that of youth, by supplementing
with NAC and glycine, there is no metabolic block, but lack of substrate.
Believe there is a solution to UC, with regards to excess oxidation,
and inability to quench properly. What we are faced with, is a redox mess.
For any new people to the site, you might do well to start at the beginning of the thread.
Complex disease, with complex fixes, don't let you eyes glaze over.

copper selenium status IBD, as you can see we are high in copper,
are we making more peroxides from any ascorbic acid that is around,
or is the body raising copper status by design, don't know.
But do know that copper ion and ascorbic acid is a bad mixture.
