Hi all,
I've had UC for about 18 years. I've been lucky enough to have some multi-year remissions between major flares, although there have been smaller flares interspersed as well. I take sulfasalazine for maintenance and add in Rowasa and steroids as needed.
I had a colonoscopy in January that sent me into a flare (first time that has happened and I have had many many colonoscopies.) A combination of increasing the sulfasalazine, Rowasa and Uceris has gotten me back to moving towards healing, but every time I try to go off the Uceris, the flare comes back. This is a new pattern for me - in the past, once the meds switched me over into healing mode, the flare would gradually resolve.
I'm in my late 40s and have definitely started the wild hormonal swings of perimenopause and I'm wondering if this is exacerbating my UC. I have an appointment with my GI in a week and I know he's going to bring up Entyvio AGAIN - I have always resisted the bigger drugs. But if perimenopause is likely to cause a rough few years, I guess I'd be more open to considering an immunomodulator like Entyvio.
My question is: For those people who have been through the hormone festival of perimenopause and menopause, do you feel it affected your UC and, if so, how?
I'd love to get some input before my GI appointment, even if it's anecdotal.
Thank you for any input!
