Yay, Jess-- that's good news that the c-scope is now done, and your inflammation hasn't extended upward!!!!! It's normal to feel unsettled for a couple days following scope, but then you should overcome the gas pains and irregularity of bms. Definitely use the foam if it works better, and keep the liquid enemas on hand in case you hit any bumps. For sigmoid colon involvement a UCer does need liquid retention enemas-- so it was thoughtful of this scope doctor to Rx some additional med for you to keep handy-- just in case. (Especially considering that your consultant didn't show much concern for your predicament early-on and let you suffer too long before getting any helpful script!) Take care and let us know how you're doing. / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission
taking Colazal)
Hello Old Hat,
To start with, Thank you for all your support and contributions to this community.
I see from your profile that you are having left-sided UC and taking Colozal. I'm diagnosed with the same in 2006 and on Colozal for all these years. I have some questions which I believe you can answer. Appreciate your help and support in responding to my questions, please. Thanks in advance
1.) When we say UC is in remission, does that mean we don't have blood in the stool and urgency?
2.) Do you have multiple bowel movements in a day or only one or two? Do you see any food affecting the number of bowel movements?
3.) Do you eliminate any specific foods to be always in remission?
4.) How many pills of Colozal do you take in a day?
5.) Do you do a colonoscopy every 3 years or more?
6.) Did your GI recommend any new medications to try in all these years?
Coming to my story, I didn't have any blood in the stool for almost the last 12+ years. A couple of times in all these years did Canasa Suppository for 3 to 4 nights, not due to seeing blood, just as a safety measure when I felt something is going wrong. I took Effexor 12.5mg for a couple of years because my GI recommended taking it to control anxiety. Right now I do bowel movements two times a day and definitely, I can see food I take indirectly affect my bowel movements. So I keep watching the food I take and be very cautious. Also, recently I traveled out of the country for a month and due to Air travel for more than 22+ hours and Jet lag, my whole Gut messed up. I took Align Probiotics as per recommendation from my GI. No blood in the stool, but more Bowel movements.
My GI is asking me to do a Colonoscopy for the last 1 1/2+ years and I did mine in 2018. I'm a bit concerned about
it.
After reading my store, Do you think my UC is under control?
