Colonoscopy Friday

This Friday, I'm getting my first colonoscopy since starting Xeljanz about 15 months ago. I recently posted about some mild GI symptoms I was having. They seem to have mostly gone away after upping my Xeljanz dose for a few weeks, but I still don't seem completely 100%, although nothing I'm really worried about--no pain, no blood or mucous, no diarrhea--just sometimes my BMs are all mush, sometimes quite thin/narrow, and some days I don't go at all. I feel like maybe this could also possibly be from nicotine gum not agreeing with me (I still haven't gotten off of the gum...trying). Anyway, hoping for a good colonoscopy report. I'm also getting surgery at the same time to have an anal condyloma lesion removed. I had this done once before in 2015 and flared after the surgery. My surgeon says there is a chance this could happen again. I'm really hoping it does not. I'm glad she can do both the surgery and my scope at the same visit though.

Anyway, think of me tomorrow while I spend my day starving, and my evening chugging GoLytely in the bathroom while applying A&D ointment in between bathroom trips (little tip I picked up here on HW many years ago!).

Yes, I know you're jealous! Lol. But yes, I'm looking forward to the nap.

I get migraines too. I asked if I could take a sumatriptan the morning of the procedure in case I get one and they told me no. They said to just let the hospital know if I get one and they can give me something (Im guessing via IV?). Hopefully I don't get one.

Yeah, it's real weird. It's my rectal surgeon doing it but she does lots of scopes. My current GI lives 4 hours away. I really should find a local one again. We'll see how it goes. I've never had her scope me before. I didn't even think about them not giving me imitrex if needed. Why is everything such a hassle sometimes...? Lol. I hopefully won't even need it anyway.

Thanks all! Hopefully the HPV surgery doesn't make me flare again now. I think this is the first time in 15 years I've EVER had a totally normal looking colonoscopy while not on steroids.

Charlie: Thank you! I still don't know. I upped my Xeljanz for about 3 weeks and have been back on the lower dose for 1 week and been fine other than my stools are often really narrow, but the colorectal surgeon said she saw no evidence at all of a recent flare (I'm not exactly sure what this means though...I'll discuss her results/report with my GI sometime soon). My recent symptoms maybe could've been from nicotine replacement? I was going back and forth and struggling with quitting smoking. My body doesn't like nicotine at all (it never helped my UC). Like, maybe that caused a minor flare? Just guessing at things though. I really have no idea. I don't think it was an infection. It's pretty odd.

Flowers: Thank you. Yes, I agree and have had the same with just a day or 2 feeling "off" but this lasted longer recently and my calpro was elevated. So who knows. I'm not worried about it now.

Thanks, q. She didn't give me any restrictions or anything. They cauterized it, and I didnt even have any bleeding. Last time, in 2015, I thought she told me no running for 2 weeks, so I'm going to write her and make sure there aren't any restrictions. She gave me some pain meds, but I haven't needed any today. She recommended sitz baths also, if needed for pain.

Thanks! Yeah, I was surprised when it actually worked too. It seems to work for a lot of people. My boyfriend has actually been on it for about 2.5 years and in remission the whole time. I don't know about its efficacy for Crohn's.
