Hello, I have been on Entyivio for almost a year and with great success! I was wondering if your doctors took you off mesalamines when you got placed on biologics?

I've developed problems with my ears (tinnitus and hyperacusis) and i'm trying everything to find the cause if there is one other than chance. Mesalamines are closely related chemically to Aspirin a known cause of these problems. So i've stopped taking them for the past 3 days, going to test for a few weeks to see if my symptoms go away or lessen.

How stupid is it to stop taking mesalamines?

I am also taking Azathioprine but I have no intention of stopping that.

I quit mesalamine. I’ve been in remission on entyvio for 5 years now. 😀

I can’t recall now when I quit mesalamine (Apriso) but it was probably 2 years after remission (my sig line might have the date?). My GI had no issues with me stopping it. Mesalamine alone never put me even close to remission so I didn’t see the benefit of staying on it. I think I cut dosage in half and then gradually stopped because I felt more comfortable doing that.

Have you had a colonoscopy to confirm complete remission?

My GI said I could taper off it after being stable on Xeljanz for nearly a year. I would ask your GI.

Check with your doc to see what he/she thinks. I just stopped mesalamine earlier this year after my doc suggested it. I had been symptom free for over a year.

Have your ear problems improved at all?

I stopped mesalamine after a loading dose of Entyvio. My GI wanted me only on one med.

I've been on a biologic for 2 years but still take 4g Pentasa, not 100% sure why if I'm honest.
I had a scope a few weeks ago which looked good so I must ask my GI about stopping Pentasa, it stopped working for me a long time ago so I don't really see any benefit I'm staying on it.

I'm always scared it may be helping a little so I would rather just stay on it for the time being. I may try tapering off again at some point but not right now.
