Well, it took a long time to convince my mom to try this. She's lived with constant D for over 10 years, and her Dr. gave her no hope except using Imodium type products.

She's been using 2 packs a day for less than a week, and today she had a normal hard formed, stool for the first time in over 10 years!

I was ecstatic! She was upset she felt constipated....and it was uncomfortable, and she would not go up to the full dose of 4 packs. I don't know if you have to take the full dose. But hopefully she will give it a good try before giving up.

Please let us know how it goes. I hope she finds something to make her feel better.

Personally if something made me feel constipated I would back off of it a bit.... But I have narrowing and a colostomy...

If your mom has a formed stool with two packets I would stay with two rather than run the risk of getting constipated. I was on this for two years & never did the full dose.

I agree with the others to have her stay at a dosage that allows her to have an acceptable stool. Dosages are flexible...I'm impressed it worked so well for her.

Update: The next day, she had a normal bm....not hard to pass, and we are all so happy for her. Hopefully she can gain some weight and absorb the nutrients she needs. She says shes sticking with the 2 doses.

Omg! The thought of your mom taking more than 2 packs brought tears to my eyes. Ouch!😫

I have Cd. Unmedicated due to a very long story that I won’t go into but I too live with D ALL THE TIME! When I read that your mom was upset that she was constipated I totally understood that! After having D for years, I can tell you there is nothing worse than feeling constipated. (Well you know what I mean) but that’s because to us it isn’t normal to sit and not immediately feel relief. I say I would rather have D instead of constipation any day and my family doesn’t “get it”. 😒. To have a normal bowel movement would probably bring tears to my eyes. 😫 Ouch. My butt hole isn’t use to contracting like that anymore. ☹️

I’m glad your mom found a perfect dosage for her. I’m going to have to look into trying this for myself! Thanks so much for sharing. Tell your mom, “Happy 💩💩💩😉”!

Sukay....its been about 2-3 weeks and my mom has gotten so constipated and bloated that she stopped the packets. She said it hurts too much. We have tried to convince her to go to 1. But she is hesitant. We could not understand why she wouldn't want to be D free and keep encouraging her to try again. It restricts her life so much having to not eat and take immodium (lots of it) in order to leave the house. But, maybe like you said, after 12 years, her bottom parts are pissed about having to work again...lol

However, her Dr. Once told her she could take the Imodium as much as she needed. So I wonder if she can take it daily. Eat more, and retain nutrients? However, she says it's expensive...stubborn is an understatement. 🙄

SassyBack, I would suggest that she start over with a half of a packet. If she is still too loose, then go three quarters & so on. Just a guess on my part, 1 packet would probably be her sweet spot. Just remind her that she can adjust her dosage which puts her in control. I do take Imodium as needed but the I think the insert says not for long term use. Usually I only need it for 2-3 days, but then you have to wait for it to kick in, if one pill isn't enough you add another one, not to exceed so many in a 24 hour period. I've been in your mom's shoes with the diarrhea & it was horrible.

I'd rather have diarrhea than constipation. No question. Constipation can be extremely painful and uncomfortable.

I don’t think people who suffer like we do understand how awful that feeling can be to us. They just want to fix us because they feel so bad for us. I wish family can understand how we feel internally to change and what is normal for us and how we have learned and adapted to this for our lives. Stop feeling sorry for us or like you have to fix it for us. We get it. You hate to see us
Suffer. I don’t feel normal until I am completely emptied out.
