appendix removal

I have tried but nobody will do the surgery. Definitely would make my flares easier! They said they would just remove the whole colon with it if they were going to do the surgery- not what I want at all.

Makes no sense since it's not a proven fact. I still have mine over 34 plus years of UC diagnosis, and flares have improved over the years with dealing with flares earlier and earlier by increasing my meds.

Okay thank you for the feedback! The research I said that many times, the appendix has been shown to be ulcerated as well. And this could serve as a breeding ground for bad bacteria. I’m just looking at all options. Humira has failed lately and prednisone isn’t cutting it. I’m in a lot of pain due to pelvic dysfunction caused by flare. Next week I’m doing ozone sauna and acupuncture. For those of you that don’t know, hyperbaric chambers have shown a lot of promise. But still in trials. My insurance said no. Thank you All!

I got appendicitis about 6 weeks after I was first diagnosed with UC and had to have it removed. No effect on my UC at all.

An article I read said there was a correlation between people who had had their appendix removed never developing UC. I never read anything about having it removed after UC is already present.

Bacon Girl -- you need a different team of doctors ... they are giving you strange advice. I was back to work 2 days after the appendectomy. That definitely wouldn't happen removing the entire colon. Not that I think an appendectomy would have helped you, but for them to act like it was a similar operation is bizarre.

Bacon girl - ok so my husband is a surgeon. We discussed me getting my appendix out and he wants to do everything to help me. But last night he told me I shouldn’t. He said it scares him to death to think about it because people with UC don’t heal the same. He said you take the appendix only out and you’ll get an atypical immune response as we do. The sutures might not hold and leak and then you now have sepsis in your abdomen. That made me look at it altogether differently. That could very well be the reasoning behind saying no, we’ll just take the colon out
