Aaah I really want an EV but they're currently outside my budget. That being said the charging actually puts me off - not always convenient for long distance travel if you can't find a charging station, plus you have to wait for it to charge whereas at a gas station you're done in 2 minutes. Also with the housing situation here we can't have personal charging points but there are communal ones every few streets. So you still have to drive your car a bit in order to charge it..
The overall cost of EV ownership can be close to a gas car - there are minimal moving parts and no fluids to change, so minimal upkeep & maintenance, just tires and brakes.
I’m fortunate to charge at my house, my battery holds 100 kWs and my home electricity costs $.14 a kW. So to fill up my car and drive about
300 miles would cost about
$14. I have solar on my house so the cost is probably closer to $0.
If I’m at a fast charger then it takes about
15 minutes to fill up to 100 miles of range; no big deal.
I never stop at gas stations so I save money by not buying snacks inside their store.
