Yes, I got my first electric car in 2019, and as of 2022 both of the cars in our garage are now electric.

It's analogous to a cellphone, you plug it in before bed and it's fully charged by morning. It depends on how far you drive daily, charge a few times a week when it needs it. You don't have to visit the gas station, don't fret about what gas prices are (when going up) and don't have to cross town to fill-up at that one station that's cheapest.

It's about 1/3 to 1/4 the cost of gasoline to charge your electric car at home. Electric prices are usually stable and regulated in most areas. Yes, the initial purchase price is higher than gas cars. There's federal tax credits of $7,500.00, sometimes state tax credits, and sometimes power company credits as well. In my home state of Vermont, federal+state+power company credits totalled $10k which made the vehicle cost as much as a gas car would.

We do a road trip from VT to central PA multiple times a year to visit her family in the electric car in about a 7.5 hour, 460 mile trip each way. We leave home with a 100 percent charged car, and stop once or sometimes twice to charge up along the way. The car takes 15-25 minutes to fast charge, which is about how long it takes to pee, stretch out our legs, and get food/drinks.

The weaknesses of electric cars are: if you're a renter you might be unable to charge at home. Fast chargers used regularly are considerably more expensive than home charging is. Gas stations are more abundant, more reliable, faster and simpler than electric car fast chargers are. I know there's federal law and money to improve on the availability and simplicity of fast chargers so it will get better in the coming years.

There's no oil changes, less moving parts, no belts to break, no emissions sensors to fail (like the infamous check engine light on gas cars), no exhaust pipe or brackets to rust, dangle and fail inspections. They instantly start up even in -20 degree days (as there's no alternator or gas engine to spool up) without hesitation or worry like a gas car. They do well in deep snow as they're heavy. All of mine are AWD. Maintenance wise, we replace tires and windshield wipers. The batteries are meant to last the lifetime of the car. They're torquey and fun to drive, 100 percent torque at zero rpm, both of mine are in excess of 400 horsepower and put a smile on our faces when driving.

We have a Hyundai Ioniq 5 and a Tesla model 3, both go over 300 miles between charges.

I wouldn’t worry about the mileage too much, they say that people have a range of about 300 miles in a car themselves before they want/need to get up and walk around/bathroom/etc… the mileage is probably a lot less for people with an IBD.

They put the fast/super chargers in places like restaurants, grocery stores, etc…. You can usually find something to do while your charging.

Curl3d, I'd just be careful on stopping mesalamine. I'd rather take it daily and have the best odds of the longest possible remission. As needed might not cut it.

Ks1905, nice, never drove either of those. The tech keeps improving, more and more automakers are offering electrics in a greater variety.

Curl -- glad you are in remission, but I agree with iPoop -- best to take some pills everyday on a regular basis to stay in long term remission, Think of them as colon vitamins instead of meds

Spo -- sorry you are flaring after such a long remission. Hopefully you will find something that works even better and you will get back in remission soon!

iPoop/ks -- how are your EVs in the snow? I live in a rural area and have a very long, steep driveway that I can only get up in my jeep when it snows. I drive my Prius (gas hybrid) most of the time but keep the jeep for bad weather. I keep looking at EVs, but I would like to get one that is 4WD (and affordable!) so I can get rid of the jeep and the Prius (both are very old). Also have concerns about the power grid, but hoping that the bills that were passed the last couple years will help to address that issue.

Hello CC and everyone. I still lurk from time to time, but am in FULL remission thanks to Rinvoq. Did just have blood work done and found that I'm anemic. Doc prescribed oral iron pills and told me she wanted to give me iron infusions but insurance requires pills first. sheesh Dang insurance as usual. It's been three days and, so far, no problems. The doc. is my primary care doctor and didn't know the reason without more testing. Did fecal blood check and it was clear.SO, hopefully my get up and go will come back soon. It has been SO good being in remission!!! It's just a shame that medicines cost so much these days. I wish the best for everyone and will continue to lure from time to time. This is still the most informative and helpful group around for uc. Thanks all. Stay well and safe

Geezer -- happy to hear the R word May it continue for a long long time! Hopefully the iron pills will work quickly. If you start having gastro issues, let your doc know right away and hopefully they can get an infusion for you instead.

Thanks, iPoop. That's about the same length as my driveway, I don't know how much it rises, but it's steep.

Ks-- you have to use an app to tell it to fully charge? Why wouldn't it do that all the time?

Question -- can the EV go for days/weeks without being driven at all? With my Prius I was told it had to run at least once every 2 weeks so if I go on a longer vacation I either need to get someone to start it or there is something I am supposed to disconnect. I've never left him for that long so that hasn't come up.

Yes, I was recently away for 10 days on a vacation and left one ev at the airport parking garage and one home, both unplugged. They're fine. They lose a little bit of range (maybe a couple miles) due to an active battery management system that keeps the battery internal temperature from getting too hot for longevity. Sometimes the car ac turns on by itself to cool the battery on a hot day, parked in the sunshine.

All the EVs have a manufacturer app and the car's are always internet connected via cellular. You can set the charging schedule (for overnight charging at lower electric rate). Check battery state of charge and remaining range, send nav directions to the car. You can turn on the cabin heater to warm it up on cold days, open or close windows. You can view charging history, usage and cost. EVs themselves are like smart phones on wheels with lots of preferences and capabilities through software. While I'm fast charging on road trips I can watch Netflix or play videogames on the car's big, laptop like screens.

The tesla uses my cellphone's Bluetooth as a key, auto unlocks as I approach, locks when leaving. There's no start button, it turns on when you sit in the driver's seat and have your phone on you. They're very techy
